There are ways to express one's disapproval without starting fistfights. In the late 80s in Pittsburgh there was some demonstration on a related topic [must be AIDS], and I happened to pass by it on a narrow sidewalk going to a bookstore. One of demonstrators tried to give me some of their literature. I refused to take it and told him that I was not interested - and that was both sufficient and civilized.
