I saw that. A 20 ft Hammerhead! Between the Gators and the Sharks we are going to have to form a Senate committee to investigate whether oil company profits are contributing to this..

What is happening in Northern Virginia and the Carolinas is that the furniture industry is moving to China. That is what happens when your labor costs are higher than the rest of the world's. That is what will happen to many industries if we require higher wages for Mexicans.

Tony Orlando used to have Dodger season tickets right across the isle from me in the dugout section. (He may still be there, I no longer have my seats.)

He was always very polite, and signed autographs for anyone that wanted one. He was never pretentious in any way. In fact, the only way I even knew it was him was somebody told me.

And you know he's an OK guy when he's got DODGER season tickets! {;^)

Could you please post the link the RS comment. Thanks.

By the way, I did record the Murtha interview, if anyone could please send me the time in the interview, or when it happened (beg., middle, or end) that would be great.

Thanks, Ian

Understood. For every person Hannity or Ingraham gets to consider how much better being conservative over liberal is, there still needs to be people from the Republican party talking to them, encouraging them and recruiting them into our party.

Well said, you obviously belong to an evil Country Club! I am working towards becoming a CC Republican, but I don't like cigars.

The latest solution is to round up the 10 million, deport them and then import 10 million legals. Can you imagine the gummit boondoggle that would be?

Guest workers w/o citizenship seems the best solution.

Villaraigosa is against making English the national language and incorrectly states that they didn't provide any money to help learn English. They provided a $500 per person grant. He also says that there are long lines of people trying to get into English classes. Apparently, they are paying for this themselves. Thanks to the Senate, we would now be paying for it.

A Labor intensive solution is never cheaper then a machine. The very reason the market invented the machine is it is inherently more efficients.

It depends on why the machine was invented and where it is being used. Rather than having cement truck mixers, cranes, metal scaffolds, and conveyor belts, it is easier and cheaper in India to hire people for a few cents a day to mix the cement by hand, and carry the cement in baskets to where it is needed on bamboo scalfolding. Why invest large amounts of capital in machines that need to be maintained and replaced?

What you saw in India was not that. What you saw was how a Tradition oriented society and and overly interventionist Government screws up a market. Labor was cheaper in India because the Govt of Indias economic polices made the machine difficult and expensive to import at the same time making internal development of the same machine substandard or nonexistent.

What I saw was a developing country operating on free market principles. Labor intensive activities also work on the political level, i.e., they provide employment for the poor and uneducated. Of course, you can always ship the problem out to a richer country like Mexico does.

US businesses are relocating their operations to China? Why? Cheap and plentiful labor. There is a reason why we don't manufacture TVs anymore in the US. No amount of efficient machines is going to change that fact.

They had to drop the ones killed in the Civil War from the rolls, it was getting hard to fake those.

ref #171, I am sure that Bayh is being a real Chicken as far as the Dem leadership is concerned. He is after all running for President and gets better grades from the Average American than her "Heiness", and he is better looking. Miss Marple can give us the complete lowdown on Bayh, but I recall that he ran with his tail between his legs after he was going to support the PBA ban and the Pro- Aborts jumped all over him. He probably had to change his briefs after Kate Michelman and the Pro abortion anytime, any place Cartel got him by the throat or points lower. LOL! I believe that Lieberman will win the Primary and the Election, but he and GWB are friends so he does not need to lower himself to please the left wing nuts. He votes with them most of the time anyway and they cannot say he does not. They will not fire Alf's father anyway. LOL!

Also don't forget Bill Clinton taped a video of support for the Labour Party during our election.

Saying what a great guy his friend Tony Blair is. (paraphrasing but that was the general gist).

I quit listening to Hannity after the port deal. I listen to Ingram a little but she is becoming bash Bush all the time and actually got in and cut off after about two sentances for supporting Guest Worker.

Rush is becoming more strident and thought his interview w/Snow was one of his worst. Too argumentative and cutting off Snow mid-sentance, thought I was listening to Savage.

His Reagan v Rockefeller argument is insulting. He dismisses the labor argument as greedy business. Not too many manual jobs in Radio.

That has to be it, either that or it was all GW's fault.

Where are you going to get the new workers to replace the 8% of he workforce that is supposedly made up of Illegals?
  1. Automation
  2. Legal (and tightly controlled) immigration
  3. Off shoring
  4. Reeducate and train the "marginal and unemployables" and get them off of welfare
  5. Identify the things we don't need to do anymore and stop doing them

That accounts for at least 8%.  Number 5 all by itself probably accounts for 10% on it's own.

The above is only half serious.  I get your point, but can you see mine, however exaggerated?  We don't need an exploitable under class of low skilled low paid workers, which is what McCain and others are arguing for.

It boils down to corrupt employers paying people off the books at sub minimum wages because they can't complain since they're illegal.  That part of the problem, the part that talks about "jobs Americans won't do," we have to eliminate, above all else.  That accounts for probably a third of the illegals.  There's another third that are truly here as invaders, intent on "taking back their land."  We need to root them out and imprison them for a very long time as enemy aliens, then send them back where they came from.  Then there are a third who are truly hard workers who have sunk roots and become part of the fabric of our country, particularly those that have started their own businesses.  Those I want to keep.

Regarding China I agree the labour is cheap and that is why the work is going there. On the other hand they are using modern sophisticated machinery to produce the goods, machines often made in China more cheaply than elsewhere because labour is cheap.

It is a mixture of labour and machinery and both ways labour is cheap whether the work is done manually or by machinery.
