The ethical storm over abortions has been renewed as it emerged that terminations are being carried out for minor, treatable birth defects.
Late terminations have been performed in recent years because the babies had club feet, official figures show.
Babies are being aborted with only minor defects. Other babies were destroyed because they had webbed fingers or extra digits.
Such defects can often be corrected with a simple operation or physiotherapy.
They just realized this now??? This has been happening for a long, long time. When will they make the "discovery" that other abortions are based on the sex of the child??? In 2008? Or out of "convenience"?

WHAT IF it was discovered that there was a gene regulatinh homosexuality and abortions were being performed based on its presence in the fetus? Liberals would simply EXPLODE because of their inability to cope with this dilemma.
Sometimes the wrong gender is enough to abort.
If this were happening, they would only redouble their efforts to recruit young people into the ranks. And yes, I believe it IS possible to talk someone into being a homosexual. I think some are genetically predisposed while others become for other reasons (cause its hip or for a quid-pro-quo). People can be talked into anything.
IMO, the homosexual lobby would suddenly become pro-life-- perhaps with some exceptions....
I don't buy this. I don't know the political leanings of the Daily Mail, but this just doesn't seem right. I can't imagine any woman 20 weeks pregnant opting for an abortion only because the child has a club foot or cleft pallate. There is something missing here. I just can't imagine any woman doing this for something relatively trivial about the baby's health.
I believe it would expose hypocrisy from people on BOTH the Left and the Right.
If you have the DVD for Gattaca, there is an outtake scene that poses just this question. When Vincent's parents are planning to have his brother, they mention quietly to the doctor (geneticist), "We'd like to have grandchildren." The geneticist smiles and says, "Already taken care of.." If we ever get to that level of reproductive manipulation, a lot of quirks and characteristics will disappear from the human race.
Remember? This is happening in a country that prides itself on socialized medicine.
It is just plane dollars and cents (pounds and cents). What does it cost to abort a fetus? What does it cost to correct a club foot or a cleft pallet, web fingers, dyslexia?
You are a hospital administrator in Britain and you are being pressured to keep costs down. Knowing that every birth defect that leaves the womb will incur ongoing costs for long term correction therapy and surgeries, you make a quiet policy to encourage parents to scrub those little future vagrants out of the womb.
With that and euthanasia; along with state(encouraged) assisted suicide, we will be able to make this socialized medicine thing work.
