True, but "Over the Hedge", over the same time period, dropped by only 30% and "MI:3", in it's fourth week of release, dropped by only 41% with decent reviews and "Poseidon", in it's third week of release, dropped only 40% with awful reviews. Like I said, next week's box office should tell if "DaVinci" is truly a money maker or not. My sense is that it will not be a money maker.

Right now, it's drawing the "I'm not supposed to see this, so I'm going to see it" crowd. That is unlikely to last but, we'll see.

How does Memorial Day weekend measure up against other "holiday" weekends as far as box office goes?

Hey, X-Men was at the top of my summer movie list.

I didn't even like the book for the DaVinci Code. No desire to drop $17 to take 2 to the movies for that one.

DaVinci will be burried here after next week. It is not a summer long blockbuster.

The Da Vinci' drop is typical for a film, especially after a huge opening weekend. It wont drop that much next week. Same thing will happen to X-men.

The 'Over the Hedge' drop would be atypical for any kind of film other than a CGI kiddie flick, those always hold up very well.

I think they've already doubled their money, so unless there's a magic profit margin that marks a "money maker", you may be wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped off worse than most. Beyond the controversy, which probably helped more than hurt, it got mediocre reviews and is said to be too long.

I saw it because (a) the book was an enjoyable piece of fluff, and (b) Tom Hanks and Ron Howard usually do good work together.

That said: the movie isn't very good.

In 11 days, "Da Vinci" has raked in $464,981,000 worldwide. In the same 11 days, "Over the Hedge" has made $85,304,362 worldwide. In 25 days, "MI:3" has made $279,114,334. In 18 days, "Poseidon" has made $56,533,000. It's no contest which movie is pulling in the money.

If you are going to compare box office percentage dropoff, you need to compare the same week to the same week. I don't know what "MI:3" or "Poseidon" dropped from their first to second week, but by this time they already have a much smaller audience than "Da Vinci." The biggest dropoff for most movies is from week one to week two, with the exception of "word of mouth" hits like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
