This is the kind of man I'd want to lead me into battle.

Too bad the command ranks of the military today don't have more like him.

Remember, this is the same Patton who expeditiously tried and executed four soldiers accused, then convicted, of raping Italian women in Sicily. He was merciless to his enemies, but did not brook breakdowns in the military code of honor.

He also "lost" the courtmartial paper work for some of his soldiers who had executed concentration camp prison guards.

Wish I could find the story, but I am glad he did.......

Unfortunately in today's climate any generals who expressed even 1/2 of the sentiment that this great American did would be fired. It wasn't too long ago that USAF Gen. Michael Dugan was fired for saying we would bomb Iraq back into the Stone Age (Gulf War I - fired by then SecDef Cheney).

This was the same Patton who was injured and paralyzed in a car accident (and later died), an accident that to this day leaves many questions unanswered.

He was not a political general, like Ike and so many others. He himself stated many times that he had no political aspirations after the war. He also stated numerous times that he wanted to resign his commission and go home and tell the American people what was really giong on.

And so when his usefulness to the Allied cause ended, he is fatally injured in a car crash.

Remember, Ike had presidential aspirations by this time.

And to think that the likes of Clinton,Clinton,Carter,Kennedy (not Jack),Kerry and Dean have so much contempt for Gen Patton.

THIS is a leader.

Please note, there is no mention of "cultural sensitivity" in any of his remarks.

There would be, if we would stop allowing politicians to run wars.

My favorite all time great General Patton. I have studied and read every thing I could find about is man, and it is all really most interesting. He meant what he said, and said what he meant. Unfortunately, he was in the right army at the wrong time, and was constantly treated like a castoff by the upper echelon of the services. When they had serious problems though, we now know who they called to get things off dead center. What a man he must have been! What a fine leader he was. He would be fired within a week in today's army, and that is a real shame.

The officer was Lt. Bushyhead. If you google Lt. Bushyhead a lot of articles come up about the incident. I read a book on it, and according to the book General Patton asked him if he was responsible. Lt. Bushyhead admitted responsibility. General Patton tore up the court martial paperwork but told Lt. Bushyhead not to do it again.

I had his granddaughter as a teacher in some professional classes. She would have made a great general. In other words, she was a real B****! LOL!

Kill off the Goddamned cowards and we will have a nation of brave men.

err - Dugan also said the USAF could do it alone, didn't need the Army, etc.

But then, Dugan was (for that matter, still is ) a dumba$$.

Dugan is a dumba$$? ARe you sure you're not confusing him with Merril McPeak? Dugan was a good general - and a fantastic USAFE commander.

I like his quote that (absent the juicy very descriptive words) goes something like: "Your job is not to go out and die for your country. Your job is to get the other SOB to die for his country!"
