Independence for Kosovo means trouble, Serbia says

BELGRADE (Reuters) - Granting independence to Serbia's southern province of Kosovo against the will of Serbia would destabilize the Balkans, Serbia-Montenegro Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic warned on Tuesday. The United Nations is mediating talks on Kosovo's future status, which Western diplomats say are likely to conclude with a form of independence by the end of the year. Serbia is adamantly opposed to such an outcome. "I am very afraid of the possible imposed solution against the will of Belgrade of turning Kosovo into a state," Draskovic told a news conference. "The whole region, I think, would inevitably face turbulence." The warning comes in the wake of Montenegro's vote on May 21 to end its union with Serbia, which the European Union at one point opposed, fearing further fragmentation in the Balkans. On Monday there were signs this fear was not unjustified, as Serb nationalists seeking independence for the Bosnian Serb republic from Bosnia took the Montenegro referendum as a precedent and possible template for their own campaign. Legally, the cases of Kosovo, Montenegro, and the Bosnian Serb Republic are quite different. But Draskovic was warning that if nationalist feelings were injured, the legalities might be ignored. Kosovo has been policed by NATO's largest peacekeeping force and run by the United Nations since 1999, when a bombing war by the Western allies drove Serb forces out of the province to halt killings and ethnic cleansing by Belgrade in its war against ethnic Albanian separatist guerrillas. Kosovo's population of 2 million is 90 percent Albanian. They are impatient after years in limbo and want independence this year. Draskovic, in a speech, warned indirectly that granting independence over Belgrade's head could bring ultranationalists to power and turn Serbia against the European Union. "The European lights in Serbia may be extinguished only by a forcible decision to declare an internationally recognized state of Kosovo within ... the borders of Serbia," he said. Creating "yet another Albanian state in the Balkans" was a "dangerous scenario" that Serbia hopes will be "thwarted."

20-YEAR AGREEMENT? Belgrade is now proposing a 20-year agreement on Kosovo to be guaranteed by Serbia and the United Nations. It would have a constitution and would run its internal affairs independently. But Serbia would retain control over foreign policy, borders and customs, human rights, monetary policy and the protection of cultural and religious heritage. Western diplomats say the Serbian government is in denial, unable or unwilling to grasp the realities of the Kosovo situation and the will of 90 percent of its people. Warnings of an unpredictable Balkan domino effect were being revived after Montenegro, Serbia's junior partner in a joint state union, voted in a referendum to go its own way. Its independence dissolves what was left of Yugoslavia, which broke up in war in the 1990s. Montenegro was one of six federal republics, with a legal right to secession which it retained in the looser Serbia-Montenegro union that was formed with EU encouragement in 2003. Regardless of that legality, however, nationalist Serbs in neighboring Bosnia see Montenegro as an encouragement to push their own campaign for an independence referendum for Republika Srpska, one of Bosnia's two constituent parts. The demand was firmly rejected on Monday by Western officials, who warned the major powers would not tolerate any threat to Bosnia's sovereignty and integrity as a state.

I understan it all, but most guilt for attrocities of both sides in Balkan Wars lie upon KKKlinton. With his push for construction of Muslim states ion Christian land and open siding with Muslims, cutting all support of allmost all world to Christians, putting embargo on oil, food and evrything, Clinton and Democrates made sure that war would be prolonged and agony also.

I remember one of Serb generals in Bosnia said: "If America didn`t supported Muslims, we would won within months, with no victims, no destruction, no ethnical cleamsing and no attrocities that came as result of prolonged agony of war and revenge after revenge for all attrocities on all sides that were product of prolonged war, Srebrenica was example of revenge upon Muslims for attrocities done over Christian Serbs in Srebrenica in 1992 and 1993. If Clinton didn`t supported Muslims, no massacres would accure, not over Serb Christians, not over Muslims, all sides would have to sid down and talk, which Muslims and Croates refused before outbrake of the war, ensured by American supoprt for their claims, which at first place led into the war. Most tragic thing is that after all, all nations in Bosnia hade to sit down and talk, exactley what we asked for before all this killing. War was result of Clinton`s incompetance and his backing unrealistic Muslim claims"

I remember watching session of Bosnian parliament when was voting of succession from Yugoslavia. Muslims and Croates were overvoting Serbs 2:1 even all 3 nations hade same rights. Than Radovan karadzic, president of Serbs, now indicted for war crimes, came out to speak
"Please, I beg of you, do not do this. This is no god for anyone, this leads to war. Please, reconcider, this will lead to war"

I remember Muslim and Croate faces laughing and grining on his remark while raising their heand to vote for succession. War came within days.

Didn't the Bosnian Parliament reconvene after midnight for a vote which Serbs weren't aware of?

"If America didn`t supported Muslims, we would won within months..."

The Yugoslav army pulled out early in the war. Serbia was threatened with sanctions to meet that deadline in late June 1992, and though it complied, the report verifying this was "lost", so sanctions went into effect - even though the next day the report was "found". The Yugoslav soldiers were attacked during withdrawal in Tuzla and Sarajevo. In Sarajevo there was a UN brokered deal with Izetbegovic that he'd allow the soldiers to leave their building and barracks, but they were attacked.

The Serbs should have seen from the beginning dealings with the UN and Muslims that neither were to be trusted, yet they kept agreeing to most of the compromises and deals.

What is a nationalist?
Answer:
1) Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation.
2) The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals.
3) Aspirations for national independence in a country under foreign domination.

I agree. Austria, Germany, Ottomans, NATO, UN and EU have all demonstrated their hate for Serbs.

I had never heard about this. How sad for ALL the people of the area.... because I would bet you a dollar to a lightbulb that those politicians in Bosnia never lost ONE thin dime in that war and in fact, got rich and even more influencial in European circles.

I read once that that slimeball General Clark has a son ( he probably supports some of the anti-Serb posters on this forum) who got FILTHY rich off the war because he went into business with a mussie politician who was really involved in the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Now, here's the real question.... which people in the west got rich off this civil war???

They are the REAL villians in that war!!!

And further I bet they are the MAIN ONES BLAMING THE SERBS!!

"Today, the main difference that not it is not OK/PC to openly attack or hate Jews. but it is a sign of distinction among the high brows to be a Serb hater."

You know what? You're right on the money on that comment.

Yes.
Pushing of Serbs was systematical.

1. First I remember that West urged Yugoslav army to retreat from Bosnia, ant army did that. Than USA and West didn`t recognised that claiming that it did not witdraw.

2. Serb Chrisitans hade better officers in Bosnia and also small, but efficiant airforce. Than, USA trough UN pushed ban on Serb Christians to use airforce.

3. Than USA (Clinton) pushed Embargo on Serbia including arms embargo. Now, that was against Serbia, but islamic countrieas with USA blessing sent weapons to Muslims.

4. Evry time Serb Christians came close to liberate Srebrenica, Gorazde and Zepa from juslims, Nato threaten to attack Serbs, and they did in 1994 and 1995 in Gorazde and allover Bosnia saving muslims from total defeat.

Now my question is, If Serb Christians were allowed to use full power of their arms, would Srebrenica hapen? or Muslim islamofascist goverment in Sarajevo would be simpley put in prison?

My thessiss is that USA and UN prolongued the war and evem made war from a small skirmishes to real battles, from sporadic clashes to enthincal cleamsing by strangling Serb Christians and pumping up Muslims, but never defeating Serb Christians to the end and never giving Muslims enough arms to win, just enough to make and prolongue missery, to give the Democrates in USA a war that they can make money and build careers on!

Biosnian War was make-up war, invented for benefit of Muslims and Clinton. It should never ben a war as same as Bosnia shouldn`t bew a caountry. Look at this:

1. Bosnia was make-up countr (still is), made as playground for Democrates
2. Bosnian war was directed by Democrates adn EU/UN for serving their pourpouse, diverting from domestic problems and maney making

so Bosnia as country shpold never happen, and therefore, Bosnian war wouldn`t happen.

I guess calling it an "Exodus" will be a balm for the fascists who supported the Muhammedans in their ethnic cleansing of the Serbs.

The only live fascists I have ever seen were visiting Serb scientists, in the 90s. To "equate nationalism with fascism" it takes an extremely violent and malignant form of nationalism.
