If you live out on a farm; and want to build your house 'your way' and arrange it 'your way' and paint it 'your way', and pile trash in the front and back yards; that's fine with me.
But, if you live next to me; I have an issue. When your rights trump my rights; or 'your way' makes the value plummet on the single largest asset I own; I have an issue. That's why we have community covenents, deed restrictions and require survey's on each and every lot before the first square inch of cement is poured. That's why financing must be pre-approved and construction must have a clearly defined start and stop date.
Now, if you want to live in an area; by yourself, in which your lifestyle doesn't impact your neighbor's ... knock yourself out.
Listen, don;'t do me any favors by moving next dooir to me if your automatic assumption for the imposition of the freedom and property robbing rules is that all people will do this.
If you lived next to me you would not have any of it and I would build better than code and more, but for the people that break such protocol with their neighbor my freedom is trumped so don't pontificate about your rights being violated when all you have to do is communicate with good neighbors. And yes, I know idiot and bad neighbors exist, but the proper venue for making it right would then be working with them and requiring personal responsibility from them.. There does not have to be a heinous amount of laws on the books for you to take someone to task leagally for devaluing your property by their actions. So, for that oerson I must obey unacceptable rules that are primarilly desinged to increase my taxes to people who are irresponsible with money to begin with and some who love their positions of power.
Stop assuming that people who hate the rules of idiots want to ruin your nice looking home or situation...have a little more faith in your fellow citizen and work towards a community that does not have to have tax-nazis, and buliding "Permit" (read tax revenue) jerks and self-important townies who impose ridiculous rules which make you not a land owner but a serf. Look up what serf means and think about all these rules and taxes then get back to me about what you think you really own and have right to.
