CDC to investigate mystery disease (Morgellons)

A lot of the stories I read say the doctors were claiming it was psychosomatic and referring them to shrinks.

"One thing people should know is that this disease is not contagious, at least outside of a family. No one else in my family unit (involving at least 7 over the years) has come down with anything like it. However, some families, such as the Morgellon's founders' family, do have the disease in multiple family members."

No disrespect intended, but wouldn't a disease have to be either contagious or not? In other words, how could a disease be contagious within a family yet not be contagious to anyone else?

I didn’t see anything in the ‘new’ CDC investigation about the ‘blue threads’ associated with Morgollon’s...still, I suppose the dang thing has morphed by now...
