Kosovo Serbs break ties with UN, declare emergency
the international news ^ | 6/5/06 | na

PRISTINA, Serbia: A “state of emergency” was proclaimed in Serb enclaves in northern Kosovo on Monday as the embattled minority cut relations with the UN mission (UNMIK) over a wave of ethnic violence.

“The state of emergency is proclaimed from today on the territory of four municipalities in northern Kosovo,” said Dragisa Milovic, an ethnic-Serb official in the town of Zvecan. “All contacts with Kosovo institutions, in particular with UNMIK, are now being cut off, until those who have committed numerous crimes against the Serbs are caught.”

Several thousand Serbs gathered in Zvecan to protest the violence, allegedly committed by extremists from Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian majority despite the presence of Nato peacekeepers throughout the province. In a series of attacks against Serbs in the past 10 days, one man has been killed and two have been seriously injured.

But UN police commissioner Kai Vittrup said the latest “incidents involving Kosovo Serb victims do not appear to be ethnically motivated crimes”. “At the moment, we are putting in place additional security procedures to ensure the safety of all Kosovo citizens,” Vittrup said in Pristina, the capital of the southern Serbian province which is under UN oversight.

UNMIK officials rarely describe violent attacks against Serbs as ethnically motivated crimes, citing a lack of evidence to determine a motive. Since the end of Kosovo’s 1998-1999 conflicts, some 200,000 Serbs have fled the province fearing reprisals by ethnic Albanian extremists, while the remaining roughly 100,000 live in constant fear for their lives and property.

According to Serbia's own 1991 census, there were 191,000 Serbs in Kosovo. Somebody is playing with the numbers.

In 1991 Serbia was not independent.

"So those are the 20.000 Mujahedin that were brought to the European theatre of war through Clinton's policy, and most of them remained there and some went to America and to other countries, and they went all around Europe. And then when they start beheading your own people in wars to come, then you will know what this is all about."

We are looking for a white guy in a white van.

The UN is doing such a wonderful job at stopping ethnic cleansing.

We should put UN officials in charge of protecting the UN. That should get rid of the UN in no time.

Serbia was never and still is NOT independant, well until yesterday. Montenegro finally split from Serbia two days ago, ending Jugoslavia. Anyway, in June 1991, Croatia and Slovenia declared independence.

Slobodan Milosevic used the Orthodox Shrine at the Battle Site of Kosovo in 1989 to fan the flames of nationalism, arguing that the Yugoslav system placed ethnic serbs at a disadvantage due to discriminatory laws granting minority serbs (in other republics) no special rights.

And why is Kosovo so important to the Serbs? In the 14th Century, Turkish soliders executed all serbian nobles and knights residing in the region. David Soward states that Kosovo is analagous to the Jewish perception of Palestine - as an ancestral homeland.

Neither side has clean hands in the Conflict over Albania anyway. 6 April 1999, Serb forces ethnically cleansed Prilepnica, ethnically cleansed Dakovica.. both sides have committed horrible atrocities..

Actually, Albanian nationalists have very little to do with the establishment of a muslim state. Their goal is a secular government.

You might find fault with the Serbian claim to the Albanian lands, however, as their reasoning is based entirely on the need for the creatian of a Greater Serbia - an ethnically pure homeland of southern Slavs.

Check out the New Serb Nationalism ideology promoted during the late 1980s by Slobodan Milosovic.

1991 was a long time ago. The article appears to be accurate; according to Wikepeda, in 2002 about 277,000 refugees, the vast majority Serbs from Kosovo, fled to Serbia proper for shelter.

"Serb forces ethnically cleansed Prilepnica, ethnically cleansed Dakovica.. both sides have committed horrible atrocities."

"Ethnic cleansing" is a very strong word, a word that should never be used when self defense and preservation are involved in the mix. Islamics have been butchering Christians in the region for over 500 years, and the Christians, (the original inhabitants of the land), fight back in kind for their very survival. It's called self defense to them.

America lost 3,000 dead to Islamic terrorists, far less than what the Christians of Serbia have lost over the centuries. And we wisely decided to invade two Islamic nations in reponse and kick their ass from hell to breakfast, destroy whatever infrastructure they had, kill tens of thousands of them, which is fine with me because it's "us or them" in the long run. Islam is not some benign group of peaceful people who wish to coexist with others. They seek to destroy 'infidels', or forcibly convert them. Whenever they hold the upper hand over their neighbors they dominate, murder and oppress. So what's the big problem with another Christian nation protecting their own country from these murderous barbarians?

Maybe America has the technology to drop "smart bombs" down the throats of the enemy without causing massive civilian deaths, but Serbia doesn't.

"One thing I'm curious about, is how life is going for the USAF pilots who participated in Dog-Wag III. Does anybody ever hear anything about that? "

Unreliable sources report that many have committed suicide or rightly converted to islam.

That simply is not the way I've read that story. You might want to read the real version of the thing.

Certainly, I have read the press statements about it, but why don't you read that supposed "Serb Nationailst speech" Milosevic actually made in 1989 at Kosovo Polje?

http://www.swans.com/library/art8/smilos01.html

I think you may be quite surprised.

Milosevic was a "Yugoslav nationalist", not a "Serb Nationalist". When you allow for the context of that speech -- a great Serb anniversary -- that speech is remarkably without prejudice.

It also may interest you to know that the guy who carried the Serbian flag that day in 1989 at Kosovo Polje was an American Serb -- whose bloodlines are only 1/2 Serb!

Don't believe the Liberal claptrap of the 1990's re the break up of Yugoslavia -- most of it has already been exposed for the lie that it is! And one day soon, the same scrutiny will befall the Albanian propaganda of "wanting a secular government in Kosovo!" Pray that it happens before the Intrnationals make an enormous mistake!

The Problem is that the good "christian" people are forcibly cleansing cities and murdering others for the EXACT same reasons.

Why the hell do you think the Balkans dissolved along ethnic lines? Because the ethnic lines matched the religious beliefs of the warring parties. Croats were strongly Roman Catholic, Serbs Orthodox, Bosniaks Muslim..

And you're just as insane as the rest of them with your fear induced rants against your ideological enemies. Didn't anyone ever teach you to not poke a hornets nest with a stick when you were a child? (I don't know if that idiom translates to english).

I lived for many years in harmony with Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox and Atheists.. It wasn't until one side (the Serbs) stood up and professed feelings of Superiority that the entire system broke down. You might feel differently about the slaughter of innocents when you're staring down the barrel of a JNA cannon.

Just for now, as a starting point for evaluation and consideration, this statement goes in the BS column.

"The Problem is that the good "christian" people are forcibly cleansing cities and murdering others for the EXACT same reasons."

Pardon the expression, but that's pure bullshit. Shortly before the Bill Clinton's bombing of Serbian Christians, the Serbian policemen in Kosovo were being murdered in the streets by Islamic swine almost every day. They would be found in allies with a knife in their back, or with their severed heads resting on their backs. Christian retaliation against Islamic butchery should be expected. Retaliation against islamic aggression isn't "ethnic cleansing", it's called self preservation. Those who could not stand up to Islamic aggression in that region were conquered and slaughtered over the centuries. From Constantinople to Serbia, Eastern Christian nations whose armies were not powerful enough to stop the onslaught of allah's demons were overrun and Islamicized by the cutthroat Mohammedans.

If you cannot rid yourself of these medieval, murderous butchers, whose only desire is to kill or forcibly convert you, then you will either die at their hands or find yourself wearing a turban or a burqua, so NEVER confuse retaliation and self preservation for "ethnic cleansing".

I guarantee you that if the millions of muslims living in America began to murder thousands of Christians in our streets, like they have done perpetually in and around Kosovo, it wouldn't be long before nary a single muslim would be left living here. Only we wouldn't call it "ethnic cleansing", it would be called self preservation; (OK, maybe CNN and John Kerry would call it 'ethnic cleansing'). BTW, after Clintoon bombed Christian Serbians to help "save" muslims from being "ethnically cleansed", the alleged mass graves he claimed were filled with slaughtered muslims never materialized. In fact they found some mass graves with murdered Christians burried in them.

Unless your a professor of history, or a census worker in Serbia, I'll prefer Wikepedia over you're own guess. In any case, what does a 1991 population estimate in Kosovo have to do with 2006? World demographics have changed substantially over the past 15 years.
