The entire litany of "mean", heartless", etc. is pointless. After all we are discussing a non-fiction book.
Besides, one's "meany" is ... Isn't that the same crowd who is so ambivalent about such emotionally-charged terms like "terrorist"?
The only questions that should be asked are whether Ann correct or not and whether her opinions are supported by facts. From what I read, the answer in both cases is "yes".
