No doubt Democrats will attempt to politicize this as they have done in the past.

Over or under, this really isn't a gage of how well or bad the Bush administration is doing. Perhaps a comparison to the Clinton administration would be interesting but still only indicative of trends and effectiveness.

We DO know the moral and reenlistment numbers are up, which would indicate satisfaction with the military as a career opportunity. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to make of a monthly tally for bragging and complaining.

A few more days like yesterday and the news will get even better. People want to join a winning team.

The "moral. . . numbers" are up, too? That's good news. How, exactly, do we measure that again? ;)

Sad news for the crowd who were constantly pushing the "draft" BS here on FR last year.

Moral, not moral numbers. The only judge I can think of is reenlistment numbers and reports from observers within the military. For example, anyone talking to the troops during Clinton would constantly hear negatives which are not heard today.

Another Freeper wrote about attendance of a Clinton versus Bush address to the troops at a specific facility, and said Clinton was a horrible draw by comparison. The press, for what that's worth, also reports about troop moral overall.

I was teasing you. I think you mean "morale" - as in "troop morale is up." And I'm delighted to hear it. God bless our troops and their courageous families.

You are more than welcome to join me, but I don't need to "go" anywhere. I'll make it and walk out on the deck to enjoy the evening. While sitting outside, I'll have a chuckle over my error along with all the fake outrage today concerning al-Zarqawi's death. It is with great satisfaction to think of his seeing American Marines just before he died. The only thing better would be IF the Marines had gaven him a ham sandwich or a side of bacon.

This report from the DoD reminds me of this comment I saw recently from one of our friends on the left, writing a movie review.
This film illustrates in crystal clear detail why the U.S. military needs to recruit very dumb, totally uneducated, and mostly southern cracker soldiers who are already racist bastards who have never left their hometowns and believe all the garbage they are taught in school about how we are the good guys, and everything we do is just and right. The Army can then brainwash them to treat other human beings in such a grotesque and inhuman manner.
Since we're meeting our recruiting goals, I guess that means there are plenty of "very dumb, totally uneducated, and mostly southern crackers." Great news!

Attention Secretary of the Navy: Please examine the numbers coming from recruitment command...

Exactly making YTD goals two months in a row? Exactly making monthly goal? In May?

Either that is one of the more incredible coincidences I've seen, or someone's cooking numbers at recruitment command. I've seen Los Angeles do it over the years, and it wouldn't shock me to see someone promoted from there to oversee national recruitment.

Otherwise, fine news in there.

What are the odds of every section coming in exactly on target?

May 2006 Accessions Goal Percent
Navy 2,622 2,622 100

YTD Goals As of May 2006
Accessions Goal Percent
Navy 20,495 20,495 100

Exactly making monthly goal and exactly making YTD goal two months in a row? I'd say one percent, perhaps?

I heard this news this morning, and just had to smile. Not only for the recruiters who have been working so hard in a very difficult environment (thank you, Jack Murtha and Charlie Rangel!), but also because of the shrieks and wails I know this provoked among the rabid left. [grin]
