I also quibble about BNSF and UP being "the main shippers of coal" in the U.S. I imagine Norfolk Southern and CSX would object to that statement.

So would a several barge companies that transport PA, WV, and OH coal on the Ohio River.

The article is right on that point -- at least as far as coal shipped from a single source. The amount of coal shipped out of the Powder River Basin dwarfs the volume shipped from any one source by the eastern railroads.
