The way I read the article is that they're trespassers.
***About 350 people grow produce and flowers on the 14 acres of privately owned land,***
Careful now. Exactly what are the laws of California concerning "squatter's rights" in California?
In some states squatters can take over land and use it. After a while they may technically "own" the land. This is why I have to make a trip every few years to make sure no one has moved onto an abandoned farm of ours.
Socialism in action....confiscate someone elses's property to use. I really do not think these so-called celebrities realize how stupid this makes them look to their potential audience in America.
In Ecokalifornicatia? Are you kidding? That would be one thing that would have the greenies calling for the death penalty to be applied!
LOL - yeah but it would have been worth the look on their face .... just to see them when they came back to their now brown lettuce and dried up kelp with a bottle of that stuff laying around.
10 Mill is probably more than Darryl would be payed for starring in "Dancing at the Blue Iguana II" but maybe Glover could toss in some of his salary from "Lethal Weapon XXIII". Unfortunaley the IRS owns Willie Nelson and Joan Baez hasn't sold a record since 1973, so they can't help.
The fruits and nuts have tried to negotiate a purchase price with Mr. Horowitz. They are not exactly squatting. I'm not a tree hugger, but a little bit of beauty in inner city Los Angeles is priceless.
14 million dollars, and Mr. Horowitz is still not satisfied. Think about that....
Hmmmm, I been lookin' fer a farm to squat. Where 'bouts yur farm located?
What's to think about? It's his property, he can set the price as high or low as he wants. That's the entire point.
Well of course the owner can set the price, but from I read, he upped it. Not cool...
What would you rather see, a warehouse or a thriving garden? The amount of money just blows my mind :(
Baez, Glover, Streisand, and Hannah can always allow these "urban gardeners" to plow their estate lawns up and plant veggies, flowers, and cannabis....
What I want to see is not the issue...what does the owner want to see is the point....
It's a linchpin of leftist thought that all things belong to the "people"; therefore majority rule should tell people what to do with their personal property.
I remember in David Horowitz's book how his landlord tried to sell his property to his communist parents and they wouldn't buy it, they didn't think they should own land. They just wanted to live on it and make the landlord miserable.
All this said, I know it hurts to see your garden knocked down for a warehouse. But that's sometimes what private property means.
You always here stories of liberals and how much they value their private property, but when it is someone else's property, let's give it to illegal immigrants.
Didn't the beach boys do that? IIRC they had this guy
living with them.
Nothing but illegal alien squatters on Ralph Horowitz land.
Where was ICE when this situation was happening?
The lot is huge. You can see it with GoogleEarth on the corner of 41st and Alameda. No wonder the owner wants it back....God doesn't make lots this big anymore...
Why don't the farmers want to pay rent? Could it be ...?
As many as 20 demonstrators inside the garden chained themselves to each other, the tree or 55-gallon concrete-filled drums.
I wonder if MEChA or La Raza was involed in the demostrations today.
