The musical guest was some chick from Scotland who stank, but had a mysterious message taped to her guitar which read: "THIS MACHINE KILLS FACISTS."

American folk-music hero and real-life Communist anti-American scumbag Woody Guthrie had that written on his guitar.

She's emulating him and clearly put that on her guitar to take a swipe at Coulter.

If she weren't ugly and talentless with frightening dental problems, KT Tunstall might have made a statement with that - but it was just pointless and derivative.

In fairness, every moron out there knows who George Carlin is. Not all morons know who Ann Coulter is.

What he did last night was an updated version of what he's been doing for years - stringing together phrases he considers culturally relevant that contain some opposition to one another, like "I'm an alpha male on beta blockers."

No Smokehouse Restaurate. The location is embargoed (unless someone else has released it). :)

As a collection of words and phrases, his monologue was okay. As comedy, it was the same as his earlier stuff, just updated.

That's probably why I don't find it funny. I like my comics to come up with new material, instead of plugging new words into an old template. Carlin's getting lazy.

I saw it and Peter reported to me early in the morning. I said it at the FReeper Victory Brunch in 2001 and I'll repeat it: Hillary is Satan's daughter.

Leno admitted that he was generally a fiscal conservative and social liberal.

In other words, a squishy moderate with no spine, which is exactly the impression I formed of him the very first time I saw his stand-up.

Since it's been used NINE TIMES in this thread, I move that we ban the use of "awesome" for 24 hours. (Not necessarily 24 business hours, mind you.)

The "machine" is the guitar, and the message is that the music will overcome the evil. It's not a particularly bad message, however in the hands of the performer last night it was a bit presumptuous.

Say what you will about Woodie, but at least he backed up his claim with passionate action for his (wrong) point of view.

Loved the show, glad you guys were there, you could tell Ann was glad to have the cheers, it strengthened her. You probably shocked those who were ready to boo, which was also good -- a lot of times a small "booing" contingent gives the audience the idea that it's OK to be uncivil.

I've always liked George Carlin, and I liked him tonight. Of course, my most extensive esposure wasn't with his comedy, but when he did a stint on Thomas the Tank Engine, which I watched incessantly with my children.

I know he prepared his quip about "moving to the right", but it was a funny and civil way for him to make his point.

When Ann's book first hit, I was critical of her comments about the Jersey Girls. But I've come around -- she managed to draw the fire, get them out, and make her point through the controversy.

It didn't hurt when Zarqawi got killed and Berg's dad came out to talk about how bad it was that our government killed the man who beheaded his child -- because he was the perfect example of what she was talking about, and in that moment everybody saw clearly.

Last year I got the most hate mail I ever got for a column, when I contrasted Cindy Sheehan's statements about the president from right after her meeting with him, and a year later, and said one of the two was a lie. One woman said someone should push me under a bus for attacking a woman who lost her son.

I disagree about Limbaugh. He isn't popular because he's a great speaker and debater, but because it's hard to argue against the truth. I'm not dissing him, I'm just saying that if he had to defend liberal talking points he wouldn't be very effective.

That was fantastic. I can't believe how loud you were. Interestingly, I watched the show in bed with my headphones on, and the closed captioning was on, and when there were loud cheers for Ann it said [light clapping] and when Jay made the jersey girl reference it read [loud booing] and I couldn't even hear it. Not once did it read [loud cheering] when it was almost deafening in the headphones. I think the CC transcripter is a lefty.

Carlin has become such a curmudgeon he just isn't funny to me anymore. Especially after seeing him on the Bill Maher show on HBO and watching him seething with hatred whenever Bush was brought up, especially talking about Hurricane Katrina. His remark about moving to the right was darn funny though.

Ann was great, her self confidence and persona was so strong and clear that I'm sure the people out there who are somewhat unfamiliar with her were surprised she wasn't Elmira Gulch after all. Her remark about Dorothy and the house landing on the MSM was so funny I woke my wife up laughing.

The only thing I wished is that when Leno called her "Nasty" and questioned her civility she had brought up Carlin's remark about calling Barbara Bush "The Grey Douchebag", or Kanye West's asinine remark on national TV, or Belefonte calling our Pres. a terrorist, or Cynthia McKinney saying Bush intentionally let 9/11 happen, or Michael Moore making millions lying about a national tragedy etc etc, and asked Leno, "Were THEY being civil, because they do this every day and no one in the MSM seems to question THEIR civility?"

She did make that point in a way, but it could have been stronger. All in all I thought she was absolutely fantastic and judging from the lack of coverage on the MSM this morning she was indeed a big hit.

Is it my imagination or has this been a great week for the good guys?

Yeah, whenever I follow the links to DU I'm reminded how "victim"-centric they are. I can't imagine a freeper lasting 5 minutes on this board if they came in whining about how sad and sick and depressed they were about something a liberal had just done.

But I think she then said something about "except on your show, of course" to Jay (which may be when he said he was a fiscal conservative, I can't remember).

From abclocal.go.com:
Coulter-Carlin meeting ended up pretty tame
Many had expected fireworks between the two

WJRT ABC12/AP

- (06/15/06)-- If you were expecting fireworks on the "Tonight Show" last night, you might be disappointed.

Jay Leno had on the original counter-culture comedian George Carlin and acid-tongued conservative Ann Coulter. But there was virtually no interaction between the two.

Carlin was first, and noted it was his 140th time on the "Tonight Show," dating back to the Jack Paar days.

When Coulter came out, Carlin moved over on the couch. He said he never thought he'd have to move to the right.

How did you manage THIS!!!
Coulter, Carlin and tame!
I am IMPRESSED!!!
How come they didn't mention the REST of us?!?
