How can Phil Angelides beat Gov. Schwarzenegger in November? Let me count the ways …
Capitol Weekly ^ | June 15, 2006 | Steven Maviglio

No. 3: Pay me now or pay me later. Anytime Angelides is branded a taxer, he should point to Schwarzenegger's running up of the state credit card. Angelides was a lone wolf in opposing Propositions 57 and 58, and can turn that into an effective foil by painting Schwarzenegger as the largest borrower in California history.

No. 4: Microtarget the state's diverse ethnic communities. The Schwarzenegger administration has about as much diversity as an Alabama country club. African-American and Latino appointments to the judiciary and his inner circle can be counted on one hand. Angelides, who already has an advantage in these Democratic constituencies, needs to drive this point home.

No. 5: Don't say Schwarzenegger without saying McClintock. LG wannabe McClintock is an extremist who may be a heartbeat away from the governor's office. He's anti-choice, anti-bond, anti-, well, just about everything. Exploiting the wedge between the governor and his running mate will irritate the Republican party faithful--and solidify Democrats fearful of the remotest possibility of McClintock ending up in the corner office.

How the Dems view it...

Especially pay attention to No. 5 -- the Dems "divide and conquer strategy.

"Exploiting the wedge between the governor and his running mate will irritate the Republican party faithful--and solidify Democrats fearful of the remotest possibility of McClintock ending up in the corner office.

Just remember next time people try to bash Arnold -- just ask yourself, WHY are they doing it, when Arnold and McClintock are running together, on the same side.

Angelides wants to provide free medical care for all California children. He maintained in a radio interview that only 6% of the money spent on public education in California goes to administration. He would never acknowledge the state had a problem with illegals.

He has already declared he would raise taxes and increase spending far in excess of anything Ahnuld has proposed.

In short, he is a big time tax and spender lefty. He cannot escape it, no matter how they spin it.

Never underestimate the ignorance of Californians that live in LA county, the 9 bay area counties, or Bolinas.

The Dems are scared to death that Republican voters will NOT be fooled.

They know Tom is Arnold's "running mate."

The Dems have nothing except their pathetic moral and political relativism. You had better vote for Arnie unless you want another Gray Davis.

That will only cost the state another $30 BILLION...or more. Gotta feed all those illegals, you know. They vote DemoRat.

It took Carter to get Reagan, so maybe we would be better off with Angelides if it gets us 8 years of a real conservative.

Yeah thats the trick, we'll just take power back in eight years, or twelve or sixteen if the voters haven't learned their lesson yet.

Boy politics is easy.

Poor McClintock. Exploited by the left and the moderates.

I wish folks would just listen to what he says instead of using him for political gain.

That's like wishing for a heart attack to wake one-self up to the fact that one should start exercising.

I'd rather find a way to start exercising first, thank-you very much.

I'm really losing my patience with this kind of thinking! I suspect a lot of it is coming from people who are really democrats.
In Calif. we have had years of the dems in control of the state house and senate. Has it resulted in more conservatives? Do we have a majority? I don't think this state can take 4 years of Angelides.

You mean like Tom's quote from Monday 6~12~06 on his www.tommcclintock.com website?

"Broadcasting live from a tent in front of the State Capitol,
McClintock appeared on KSTE 650’s Armstrong & Getty between 7:00 to 7:30 a.m.
and praised Arnold Schwarzenegger for being the first the Governor in thirty years to refocus the state’s attention on public works. "

No--I meant the things he says on how to fix the state,
on what constitutes sound fiscal policy, etc.

I meant the ideas and the basis for those ideas...
like the Constitution, ya know?

Those seem to be things that most all politicians have left behind in their zeal for power.
