"Will they be armed?"
Hopefully not. It would go against everything the UN stands for.

"an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe."
...except for countries that get arms from Russia, France, Germany, or China, and no country that doesn't have any viable resources or money to exploit. The only rapid thing the UN knows is how to steal money from people.

"Those silly blue helmets will make excellent targets." They sure will.
Should they broach this country in any way shape or form, Op Rule #.308 will be invoked.

Yeah, just small enough and poorly led enough to require US military back up on every mission they go on.

Not for me. Our Airmen, Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Coasties are who protects America and the UN can shove off!

The UN's just breaking ground on a brand new money pit.
Better idea: next crisis, the UN should send big, fat bags of cash to those who already excell in this field
(the US military foremost among them, but also the Aussies, the Brits and others).
Can't you just see UN forces getting called to our southern border to make sure illegals get across in peace?

(Crisis management experts are calling for the creation of a "United Nations army"-an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe.)
What, are there little girls in Africa that the UN hasn't raped yet? This is a horrible idea.

Don't forget
-An entrenching tool for burying ones head in sand
-Earplugs and blind fold for special WMD searching duties. And I would swap the bucket for diapers, more tactical that way. Just be sure they are marked, 'to be changed by authorized members of the US armed forces when they come to clean up the mess.'

"A United Nations Emergency Peace Service: To Prevent Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity, which will be presented at the U.N. on Friday."
So it would be ....U.N.E.P.S.T.P.G.C.A.H.
Just imagine that stenciled on your helmet.
Also the article claims they could establish this Cluster ---k for 2 Billion Dollars.
Now I know the u.n. can't can't blow its own nose for 2 Billion Dollars. I would also imagine our cut of this bargain would be a lot more than the standard 22% of their budget we now "contribute".

I would not fight for Chira
q, Arafat, Mugabe, Chavez, Saddam, Fidel or any other 3rd world dictator.
Who would sign up today to fight for tomorrows generation of thugs?
Imagine joining the "UN police" only to have Uday as your boss?
Being ordered to fight with the "brave janjaweed in Darfor, Sudan"?
Do a few kidnappings for FARC?
NO THANKS

They will probably want a foreign army on our soil. Hell no,this is directly to undermine US military power. Get it out of the US.China and Russia I am sure want this. Sorry fascist not going to happen.

Mercenaries?!?
Seems like it was Sierra Leone where the "mercenary" group Executive Outcomes sent a few hundred people in and routed an army of psycho militants 10,000 strong in a few weeks. EO handed power back over to the legit government and were doing security work when the UN arrived and demanded EO get out.
I think it was only a month or two before the militants returned and held some 15 hundred UN personnel hostage for a while.

Someone on FR was making a sarcastic remark the other day on a thread, scoffing at just such a proposal when others were talking about a possible North American Union. I wish I could remember who it was so I could ping them on this story.
