Yes -- 14,580 pregnant women enrolled in the program since '04, and only 2,698 gave birth? Is this some kind of fuzzy math? What happened to the other 11,882 pregnancies? I have a feeling we're not talking about fetal mortality, or even abortion, just a really bad program, badly mismanaged.
Hopefully GA won't join these other states & also offer up *free* prenatal.
Time to pull the plug on "free" medical care to illegals and make them pay at least some of the cost.
PAST TIME.......
Here's an interesting example. My mother-in-law was born in Mexico, emigrated to the US around 1951, and held a green card for 50 years, rather than applying for US citizenship. She did this because she had inherited some property from her family in Morelia, Michoacan, and she would have had to relinquish her title had she not been a Mexican citizen, since only Mexican citizens could hold clear title to real estate. After 9-11 she found the security hassles for a Mexican passport holder to be too irritating and so she sold her property in Mexico and became a US citizen in 2002.
Can you imagine the outcry if US law made it illegal for legal permanent resident aliens to own real estate in the US?
"It's difficult to know down to a penny how much you've saved," she said.
Oh, if you can get within 4 or 5 million, that might work.
Good luck trying to keep up with Mexican women giving birth. You'd have a better shot with mice or rabbits. And since it's "free", we'll soon have every bed filled, and three years later, all these anchor kids will be crowding the pre-preschools for "disadvantaged" children and then schools have to be built for them in elementary and high school, until they drop out and join the gang of their choice. It's the taxpayer-funded gift that just keeps on giving.
We are being invaded from the inside out ... get the breeders in here and produce a population. Cover it all up with .. work we won't do .. hard workers .. arguments in Congress .. blah blah blah.
It's a take-over ... and with governmental support ... a coup d'tat !
Yes, I know.......having lived in CA it's such a shame to see how *large welfare checks* have changed the state, never mind that 'middle class' Americans can no longer afford to live there.
Txdoda raises the point that a some might leave the state before giving birth. That raises the question as to why the population is so transient. Further, since the reported problem was cost overruns, imagine if even a small percentage decided to stay put and have their birth. It could easily happen if the state that received the most preggers changed their benefit structure.
The more they spend the more we save. I love the stupid BS that comes out of these people's mouths.
My hubby pointed out another thought, 5 states that borders Ark. DO NOT offer up this *free* program.....if they sneak across country borders, I'm sure they'll sneak across state borders.
You are right tho', these numbers do need investigated.
Well...apparently NOT.

It was going on in TX back in the 80s. I had a friend who worked in labor and delivery at our local hospital. She said they got alot of women who would come from Mexico to have their free American babies. This was in the late 80s.

Nothing new at all. We tried to put an end to that in California with Prop 187 in 1994. What we got is a lot of opposition from the Big Tent, Open Borders crowd in the RNC. They were perfectly happy when Gray Davis and Judge Pfaelzer conspired to kill the law and pervent it from being reviewed by a higher court.
The GOP has known about the anchor baby problem for decades. The national leadership doesn't want to change it any more than the Democrats do.
The government didn't correctly estimate the cost of a FREE service paid for by taxpayers???? Oh My G-d!!!!! This must be about the 497th time in a row. Its hard to have sympathy when they do it themselves. We can only hope that the politicos who wrought this crap get their duly deserved butt kicking one November way down there in Arkansas.
It's cheaper than a couple premature babies cost of NICU nursery for six weeks $300 000 each, the cost of special education and medicines for a baby with retardation or cerebral palsy...so one kid could cost a million in a couple years of life. And since the kid is a US citizen, he has the right to treatment.
Ditto for caring for infectious disease. One case of whooping cough or measles brought up by an illegal from Mexico could spread to other "undocumented" kids who didn't get shots, and next thing you know you have an outbreak. One in a thousand end up with measles encephalits and brain damage.
Yes, I understand this, however, these are just more of our taxdollars that *could* be used in securing our borders & keeping these freeloaders out to begin with.
As pointed out the states own figures don't add up, & the costs still come up 5 times OVER the original estimates.
What's it going to cost taxpayers if gov'ts *estimate* of 12 million turn out to be 5 times off ??
How many "times off" would this cost to AK/FED taxpayers be if ALL of the 14,580 pregnant women enrolled in the program since '04, HAD given birth in AK.......rather than the 2,698 that *actually* ended up giving birth there?
Good God almighty. The only way the predictions could have been more wrong is if the Dread Boston Salty were making them. (He's notorious for being optimistic about enrollment numbers.)
