Jim Baen, the founder and publisher of BAEN Books has had a stroke and is in a coma. Baen Books are well known for sucessfully launching a profitable ebook venture known as Webscriptions.

Baen's philosophy is that is a good idea to get as many people introduced to books and nothing is encrypted or uses DRM. His company has been against the Digital Millenium Act and shows his support for the dissemination of free books from the Free Library. Baen Books has been the most dymanic force in science fiction and is the publisher of popular novelists like David Weber and John Ringo. He publishers a lot of military science fiction. The website is www.baen.com.

Thanks, I have read some of your books and they would have the type that BAEN publishes.

Sad news. Baen has been my publisher of choice ever since I discovered David Weber.

I will definitely go to express my sympathy and best wishes.

I'd love to go there and leave condolences, but every time I try to log in, it keeps complaining about "You could not be logged in". Anyone else having this problem?

Very sad. Jim Baen has provided an environment for some of the best SF in decades. David Weber in particular is a treasure of books about loyalty, honor, duty, and self-reliance. I can't recommend his Honor Harrington series strongly enough.

I was so looking forward to seeing him at LASFS the Thursday before worldcon. Hopefully he'll still make it.

As for Bean's digital subscriptions, hardly a month goes by when I don't pick up to six books for $15.

Oh, no! Jim Baen had the brains to pick up one of my favorite authors ever, Lois McMaster Bujold. Praying for him that he can come back from this.

I like BAEN Books' military science fiction. I always thought they had cool covers.
