I won't dispute that. But, although I have not followed it in great detail, my impression is that regarding "gay rights" they would be classified more as advocates than simply supporters thereof.

I am bone weary sick of the term "gay rights". Gays have the same constitutional rights everyone else has. Gay rights is a stealth term for special privileges and targeted rights. And I consider codifying special rights for ANY particular group to be a slippery slope (we are already on) that will severely damage our republic.

If the media are targeting them, I assume there must be something going on that we don't know about yet.

The greens hate Starbucks, because the creation of coffee plantations generally involves cutting down competing natural forests.

Caffeine is without a doubt one of the most addictive substances known

I think that's a bit hyperbolic. If caffeine were comparable to heroine, opium, morphine, etc. I think it would be manifestly true. But I'm not aware of people wearing coffee patches, or families destroyed by coffee, or caffeine addicts wasting away on skid row, or people whoring themselves for a cup of joe, or people checking into rehab clinics because coffee has taken over their lives, or...........

More power to Starbucks and I hope they enjoy their profits. I won't go there mainly because I'm not paying three dollars for a cup of coffee when that buys me a few pots of coffee at home.

Big-a$$ed travel mugs, not just a convenience; they're an investment.

Again, just because a drug is legal, and doesn't affect the body or the mind in the same way as opiates or other degenerative narcotics doesn't mean its not addictive.

Addictive simply means the body comes to crave the substance. It doesn't mean that the substance inately destroys your mind or body.

You're disputing things I never said. I'm saying your claim that "caffeine is without a doubt one of the most addictive substances known" is hyperbole. It's an exaggeration. If true, it would be demonstrably true given the ugly nature of genuine addiction.

No, your definition of "genuine addiction" is incorrect.

Addiction is a biological dependence on a substance.

Now it is true that when most people think of addiction they think of things like illicite drugs that grossly impact a persons ability to function, and often can wreak absolute havoc on their bodies.

But there are pleanty of drugs that are addictive and legal, and don't tend to lead people into back alleys to get them or lose their jobs or ability to function, because the drugs to not render them incapacitated or incapable of functioning. Two in our society are nicotine and caffeine.. both are highly addictive, but neither is going to cause the average person to basically be in a stupor if they have them in their blood streams.

In fact, prescription medicine for migraines often includes caffeine.

Interesting. Nice to know caffeine can help stop headaches. Keep up your treatments.

"People who get headaches when they quit drinking coffee are probably just suffering from dehydration because they don't replace the coffee they usually drink with some other fluid."

That's not the case for me. I can drink lots of caffeine in tea or pop and have no problems after. Something in the alkaloids of coffee causes my blood vessels to shrink and then expand the next day, with the effect that I get a headache from stopping coffee that I don't get with any other caffeine drink.

*Only* another cup of coffee brings down the headache (or cold packs, which also shrink the blood vessels). Caffeinated tea or pop doesn't get rid of the headache.

That's not a universal, though; lots of people drink coffee or not at will. My wife has no trouble with this.

Anyway nuts to the health police; everything they think is Bad turns out to be Good after all. Enjoy your coffee, enjoy your life, laugh at the pale wan pseudo-health nuts living a shadow of life.

Smoking controls symptoms of Parkinson's and it may delay the onset of the disease. I'm not advising anyone to smoke, but it's true.

You're not addressing your own claim that caffeine is highly addictive. The bottom line is that there should be ample evidence of that. It should be manifestly true. Demonstrable. But the boring truth is many or most people who give up coffee get a bad headache. That's it. OTOH, most people who smoke or take hard drugs suffer miserably in comparison when they try to kick the habit......and failure is common.

Instead, you've been implicitly comparing hard drug use to coffee drinking and that's simply ridiculous. Such a crude comparison is the hyperbole of nanny activists.

Remember, the Joos own Starbucks. Early in the WOT some Muslim organization organized a boycott for that reason.

Maybe they are trying to get people to switch to getting their daily fix from Caribou Coffee...whose owners are Islamic...and had real ties to terrorists according to snopes. http://www.snopes.com/business/alliance/caribou.asp

Yes, heard of that as well. . .bottom line; our culture. . i.e. our Liberal culture spends a great deal of effort as well as spending our money. . .creating 'bogeymen'.

We know that the best of nature; has a downside; as does the 'worst of nature' have an upside. . .and we just need to find our own balance so as to make the best choices; albeit the ratio of 'good/bad' is critical. . .

Meantime while STILL legal - tobacco/cigarrettes, donuts. . .alcohol. . .muffins at Starbucks and the coffee as well. . .MacDonalds; fast food in general. . .Coca-cola etc; rich food/poor food; fat food, skinny food. . .WHATEVER(!); we are forced to be vigilant; dilligent. . .so as to keep our 'lives' our of Liberal Harm's Way.

These Liberals cannot satiate their desire to control all. . .

. . .they just cannot resist the impulse or the tease of their arrogant imaginings, to interfere. The Government knows better; by all their calculations; how we should live/eat. . .brush our teeth; sleep ad nauseum.

And they love the idea that a Government Nanny; less appreciatively known as 'BIG BROTHER'. . .is running; controlling our lives. . .and they hope, would pray if they could. . .that this control would include; our very last breath. . .

My bad on the gay rights term. You are absolutely correct. I have picked up too much on them pushing the agenda.(I am an employee) but then again they do tend to sponsor gay friendly events.

You are fortunate that SB is so generous. If they can get the prices that are needed to provide these things for employees, and they want to do it, then good for them. For the time being, companies still have some say about setting wages and benefits.

I would assume SB enjoys a lot of employee loyalty.
