As my grandfather said of the Germans.
There were true believers among the SS and they were all tough fighters. But when it came to sacrificing their lives the vast majority chose surrender.

I disagree. The German engineering of mass genocide far outweighs the misery wrought by the Japanese. I'm not saying the Japs didn't give a go, the Germans were just more 'efficient'.
