Funny you mention that. Nearly every Sunday morning (in season) at the crack of dawn...my girl and I wake up, fix a steaming pot of coffee and make our rounds to 2 or 3 local farm markets. Sometimes we pick our own...sometimes not...depending on our plans for the rest of the day.
I have yet to see a Jose' there....LOL
Furthermore, this artificially low labor cost is retarding development of mechanized systems for farm labor through removing the incentive to buy and develop machinery.
Cutting sugar cane is a prime example. I know how to mechanize the harvesting operation, but no one is interested as long as Jose' can come and work for a season and the ICE load them up before they can get paid.
