In 1980, the FBI named him as one of eight members of Congress videotaped being offered bribes by a phony Arab sheik.

The videotape showed Murtha declining to take cash but expressing interest in further negotiations, while bragging about his political influence.

With friends like these.....

ABSCAM, ABSCAM, where have I heard that term before?

Let's see, Billy Carter has some Libyan contacts, was that it? Anyway, there were some sources pretty close to the White House, about the time brother Jimmy was having all that grief with Iran. In a clumsy move that would have made Prince Machiavelli avert his head in shame, and capo del' tutti capos carry out a little street discipline, the Arabs were called upon to act to isolate the Iranians even further, which went a little awry. And wasn't there the "dirtiest bank in America", BCCI (IIRC), largely funded by the Arab shieks, that was swapping guns for oil revenues, and feeding unrest and dissention all over the Middle East.

If you don't people to start thinking about some of this stuff, don't be opening that can of worms.

There haven't been any polls that I have seen or heard of from the FReepers involved with her campaign.

The district is a little over 15% veterans and military families which should be a plus for her with the way Murtha has been bashing the Haditha Marines and the WOT.

Kerry only carried the district by 51% to Bush's 49% in the 2004 election so Murtha's not a shoe in.

Irey is just starting to get the attention of the media and so far everything is looking good. Her donations from individuals has gone up greatly in the last week.

"The GOP has not done a very good job of exposing it. I would think they would have brought it up first thing."

You are right. I wish the GOP would play down and dirty like the RATS do. The GOP should name names every day on democRATS that stall nominations of judges and bills that help American families. Instead of sitting in the back row playing with themselves..

Yeah, Murtha ought to know firsthand about the "Culture of Corruption" in Congress since he has been part of it from the start. Why in the world has his constituents repeatedly re-elected this crook knowing full well that he was an unindicted co-conspirator during ABSCAM? Geez! How stupid can you get?

At any rate, I hope that Diana Irey and her campaign really sticks it to him over his own corrupt past, along with his "redeployment" foolishness.

Don't believe Novak about the Dems being worried, don't believe any journalist.

Murtha has done enormous damage to our war effort, he has instigated this vote in the Senate, which to our enemies on the ground, and worldwide makes the US look divided and weak.

He also instigated and worked with the propagandists(MSM), to smear our troops as cold-blooded murderers, for 3 wks straight, headlines, mag covers, ect.

No matter what the outcome, the Marines are cooked along with our war efforts, the enemy is emboldened with every step.

The public here, in Iraq and Afghanistan, will side with the perceived winner.

And it is not the US.

Murtha should be arrested and hung, barring that, his reputation should now be destroyed.

Thanks for the heads up...looking forward to seeing the tape.

You know, it's shocking, given that kind of evidence, that Murtha's not in jail, much less still in Congress.

Last June, the Los Angeles Times reported how the ranking member on the defense appropriations subcommittee has a brother, Robert Murtha, whose lobbying firm represents 10 companies that received more than $20 million from last year's defense spending bill.

"Clients of the lobbying firm KSA Consulting -- whose top officials also include former congressional aide Carmen V. Scialabba, who worked for Rep. Murtha as a congressional aide for 27 years -- received a total of $20.8 million from the bill," the L.A. Times reported.

In early 2004, according to Roll Call, Mr. Murtha "reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco."

Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land.

The same article also reported how Mr. Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski.

Meanwhile, the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign-finance watchdog group, lists Mr. Murtha as the top recipient of defense industry dollars in the current 2006 election cycle.

There have been no polls and probably won't be. She has a genuine shot at beating him. There are many veterans and military families in the district. Kerry only beat Bush by 51% to 49% in the 2004 election in the district.

Her needs at this time are campaign funding and media exposure.
