A poll out today shows that Senator Lincoln Chafee has lost ground among Republicans and faces a very serious challenge from Cranston Mayor Stephen Laffey in his battle for re-election.
The poll by Rhode Island College shows that if the Republican primary were held today and only registered Republicans voted, Laffey would defeat Chafee, 45 to 28 percent.
Chafee would do better if the primary drew a large number of unaffiliated voters, but the race would still be too close to call.
If three-fourths of the votes cast in the primary came from unaffiliated voters, the poll predicts Chafee would defeat Laffey 44 percent to 34 percent. That's still within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus six percentage points.
The Rhode Island poll questioned 256 registered voters likely to cast ballots in the September 12th primary.
Oh man, where's muh hanky.
Like we care if that RINO loses
Shouldn't Chaffee be running in the Democratic primary?
This is news that we care about. Let the RINO missing chromosome (that goes for all NE pols) lose. Maybe, nah, this will show these so-called conservatives pubbies that they might have to endulge in a true conservative agenda to keep their larger offices in that corrupt town of D.C.
And what's up with
What kind of BS is it when "unaffiliated" voters can decide the nominee of a political party?
WooHoo!! If Teddy the Swimmer or John Effin Kerry can't be defeated here in MA, it would be great to get rid of that maroon, Chafee, in RI.
He's a Republican?
I learn something new every day.
It's Laffey vs. Chafee? Do they rhyme?
Who will win in Nov? That`s the important election.
HEY YOU RINO "PUBBIES," ARE YOU LISTENING??
Arlen, I'm praying you're next!
Laffey has zero chance of getting elected.
So long as he gives Chaffee a few sleepless nights I'll be a happy camper.
That's a dead heat alright. [sarcasm]
Actually, I have no doubts even Northeastern Republicans would love to toss him out. The problem is Dems registering, at Chafee's invitation, in the primary. That's why the race is labeled a dead heat, though they fail to detail this as the reason in concise terms.
This does point to a good reason not to fund Liddy's Dole's Senatorial Committee. Think of all that good money that could have been spent on better candidates, that went to this primary.
BTW, Support Laffey! A Refrain I've been voicing for months. Nice to see it paying some dividends. If only Ohio Republicans had listened to my other refrain, Defeat DeWine! in their primaries.
Outstanding. CONSERVATISM WINS, ladies and gentlemen. Arnold would do well to learn this.
Didn't he just vote 'yea' on the second Dem "cut and run" amendment today?
Yes he did.
I don't think I would give much credence to poll of 256 people out of probably a hundred thousand or more voters.
