A MELBOURNE man who punched and shook his newborn son to death was today jailed for eight years.
Douglas Paul D'Aloisio, of suburban Lilydale, killed six-week-old Jackson in February last year after bashing him as many as three times a week from when he was less than one-month-old, the Victorian Supreme Court heard today.
D'Aloisio, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was today sentenced to eight years' prison with a minimum term of five years.
The 31-year-old bashed baby Jackson at least twice on the day he died after he was "whinging", crying and spat his dummy out, the court heard.
He punched him in the chest a few times, grabbed him around the neck and shook him and also clapped him on the head a couple of times.
D'Aloisio suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder and depression and this affected his ability to deal with stress, experts had told the court.
Justice Geoffrey Eames said he accepted that mental illness was a factor in the man's actions.
However, he described the death of a defenceless child as one of the most serious examples of manslaughter.
D'Aloisio's wife Sandra, who was in court today, was his childhood sweetheart and she continued to support him, the court heard.
She firmly believed his actions could only be the product of mental illness, Justice Eames said.
What a wonderful mother she is. When he gets out in a few short years, maybe she can have some more babies with her sweetheart.

Wow! Only 8 yrs for murder?
Tax evasion gets more than that.
That freak deserves a much longer sentence for what he did.
The other freak deserves a cell right along with him for being stupid enough to procreate with him.
God, keep the soul of that precious angel in your loving arms!
From the previous article:
"To live the rest of his life with the knowledge that he killed his own son having assaulted him over a period of weeks ... is punishment in itself," Mr Allen said.
Not quite.
Doesn't sound as if he was the one suffering here.
8 years for this atrocity? That is sickening.
Makes me ****en sick !
I've read that article.. the animal that did that to the child deserves to be put down...
