Saudi Cleric Decries World Cup Soccer Enthusia

CNSNews.com) - Millions of soccer fans around the world are zeroed in on the World Cup tournament, but a Saudi cleric claims that public enthusiasm over sports turns people into fools and encourages nakedness.

"Some of the fans paint their faces with strange colors," Sheik Muhammad Al-Munajid complained in a June 1 interview broadcast by a United Arab Emirates-based television channel, which serves Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries.

"Some of them look like demons ... The devil has turned these people into fools and made them change the way God created them, with all the things they are doing," Al-Munajid said.

The broadcast of Al-Munajid's interview was intercepted by the Washington, D.C.-based Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) and posted on the group's website.

Al-Munajid also said the appearance of many women at the World Cup was inappropriate since they are usually not completely dressed. "The cameras at the soccer fields will zoom in on many things, including women," said Al-Munajid, "who will not be wearing veils, of course and will be half naked in many cases."

Al-Munajid was formerly employed by the Islamic Affairs Department, which is associated with the Royal Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. However, MEMRI Executive Director Steven Stalinsky told Cybercast News Service that Al-Munajid was among the Saudi diplomats who did not get their diplomatic credentials renewed by the U.S. State Department in late 2003.

Stalinksy said his organization has clips of "at least a half a dozen TV appearances over the last two years of [Al-Munajid] on TV making outrageous statements."

On Jan. 6, 2005, Al-Munajid blamed the public enthusiasm over sports for some marital breakups. "[T]he fans' support for teams reaches blows, both within the field and outside it, in schools, and other places, and this is a reason for divorce and various social tragedies," he said

While acknowledging that "participating in sports activities is important" for women, Al-Munajid said he did not approve of public participation for women. "Some want women to participate in the Olympics!" Al-Munajid said in the interview from 2005. "Women are not allowed to participate in the Olympics in full view because this means exposing her nakedness."

Al-Munajid's past remarks, Stalinsky said, have also targeted religions other than Islam. "He has a website that's known to be very anti-Christian and anti-Semitic," Stalinsky said.

He added that it is "really notable" that Al-Munajid worked at the Islamic Affairs Department and the Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. "That shows who was there, the mentality. [I]t was a good thing he didn't get his credentials renewed so [that] he had to leave."

"Why, these foolish infidels act like it's acceptable to enjoy life!

They've got a lot of 'splainin' to do when they meet up with the Big Bully in the Sky known as Satan--er, I mean Allah. He ain't the forgiving sort of a god, ya know."

"Oh please keep posting this stuff.... it is great. Only if people in the middle east didn't have an 80% illiteracy rate."

Even those who CAN read are forbidden from freedom of choice in what is available to them.

Censorship, along with threats-both temporal and ethereal are the only way to perpetuate a web of lies such as Islam that criminalized individual freedom and joy.

Yeah. Some miserably depressed looking women in burques are obviously more representative of a loving God.

And a loving God rewards people for murdering in his name with an eternity of sex in a brothel filled with women who magically can not lose their virginity, no matter how many times they pleasure their assigned butcher.

So says Mohamhead.

But didn't God create us ... naked? And by wearing clothes aren't we changing the way that God created us?

Hmmm. Which is a better way to let off some team. Getting a little crazy (and naked) and a sporting event? Or. Preaching hatred, violently opposing basic freedoms, and encouraging suicide bombing against 'Infidels.' Yes, the West has much to learn from the Muslim World (sarcasm).

"sports turns people into fools and encourages nakedness."

Agreed, but so does certain forms or religions, such as Islam.

Why do these so-called "clerics" always have their mind in the gutter, talking about naked women?

You know these "clerics" have to watch all the games closely, just to document the depravity, of course. Not because they are secretly fans of soccer and scantily clad women fans. Perish the thought.

With Islam, happiness is a sin. A true Muslim must deny the joy and exhilaration of the most fundamental characteristic of mankind; the thrill of competition.

Additionally, Islam doesn't teach self restraint and self control. It assumes that a Muslim has no self control so therefore they must make the world void of temptation of any kind. Sort of like child proofing a house.

Women must cover their faces so that the men don't have evil thoughts. Sport must be banned because people will be "made" to express themselves in evil ways. Music, art, and all of life's expressions then should also be removed from civilization because people will be made into evildoers and distracted from Allah.

Ultimately all you have is a society with a miserable existence where all the "sources" of "evil" are placed in a cage. The Islamic washing of society is the denial of emotion, individual identity and the inception of slavery.

I suppose those 72 virgins their homicide bombers are supposed to enjoy in the afterlife are all wearing burkas or is ogling naked women allowed in the Muslim paradise.
