As President Bush prepared to visit Europe this week, Die Zeit, a German weekly, declared that Americans have "lost their moral credibility in Iraq."

The newspaper also said "America's entire Iraq policy is out of control."

Of course we should base our war strategy and foreign policy on what a German newspaper says. The democrats seem to want to do just that

Dem'crats being Dem'crats - working with Howard Dean's dream of being competitive in all fifty states - they will drizzle away all possibility of winning a majority in either the House or Senate in 2006. Howie, you see, has a much bigger vision, and it may take as long to build as the span between Woodrow Wilson, in 1912, and FDR, in 1932.

Yeah, 2012 sounds about right. All they need, by then, is a major depression and a Herbert Hoover clone they can demonize as the source of all their woes.

obviously did not remember when President Gerald Ford ordered American troops out of Vietnam in April 1975. They departed — some clinging by their fingertips to helicopters — as North Vietnamese forces advanced on Saigon.

I thought Congress pulled the funding on that war.

We still have troops in Germany and Japan. Does that make WWII a quagmire?

Normally, I avoid anything mentioning That Old Troll, err, the Esteemed Journalist, because of the gawd-awful pictures which inexorabley get posted, but I'm glad I looked.

If this is the best they've got, they're doomed.

Exactly. Such naked (oops, shouldn't use THAT word with helen!) partisanship from a "journalist" is simply appalling.

So is she saying the Democrats had a different policy about Vietnam? More germane to the particular issue is that Murtha spoke out for an immediate withdrawal from Somolia and that directly emboldened the Islamfascists.

"The Democrats should campaign on the slogan "It's the war, stupid." Do any of them have the courage to take a stand on the Iraqi quagmire?"

What an interesting choice of words: taking a stand on a quagmire?

"Rove — who prides himself on being a history buff — obviously did not remember when President Gerald Ford ordered American troops out of Vietnam in April 1975."

EXACTLY!! AND EVERYONE OF THE 55,000 AMERICANS WHO DIED IN THAT WAR DIED IN VAIN BECAUSE NIXON CAVED IN TO PRESSURE FROM THE ANTI-WAR CROWD AND PULLED OFF HIS "PEACE WITH HONOR" CRAP.

Sorry for the upper case rant.

Senility is such a thief, Helen doesn't remember that the
majority of troops were withdrawn by that time and that
Congress had cut funding for the South Vietnamese to such a
point that further defense was not possible.

Amazing that this ould hag dreams of American military
"clinging by their fingertips to helicopters " as Islamic
forces advance on Bagdhad. Sad really.

Sad, but Hang her anyway.

I sure hope the Democratic leadership reads and heeds what Helen Thomas has to say.

If they do, Republicans will add up to 20 new congressmen and five new senators to their ranks.

Ms Thomas,

Your hysteric rabid political feelings are not facts. Because you feel something does not make it so. It is the sort of rabid stupidity expressed in your editorial that demonstrates just why Democrats WILL lose in Nov. Your ignorance of basic political reality in a Post 9-11 world is only exceed by one thing. Your arrogance in thinking if you keep screaming the same lies over and over your political bigoted emotional hysteria over Iraq will some how transform itself into fact. It will not.

I will explain Iraq in terms even a senile old spinster like you can grasp. Iraq is about killing terrorists. We are killing as many of them as fast as we can THERE so the rest of the Muslims wake up to the idea that quot;Jihad" is a game to not be played against the USA. You do not stop terrorists by mouthing terrorist talking points and propaganda Helen, you stop them by KILLING them. WAY past time for your retire you stupid old virgin hag.

He was responding to Rove's speech in New Hampshire last week in which Rove attacked Democrats for what he called "that party's old pattern of cutting and running."

One of the advantages of having XM in my car is that you can get CSPAN radio. Just by chance I picked up Rove's speech and it was a knockout. This guy is an excellent speaker.

What is he going to pull out of the hat? Soft on terrorism?

Why not? Your side is soft on terrorism, Helen, and it should be brought up as often as possible.

I think we all ought to send copies of this column to the DNC & HOPE they'll take her advice.

Imagine if every democrat would run on the platform, "Cut & Run - NOW!"

O.K. I can dream.

She can be as biased for her agenda as she wants, since she no longer is a reporter but has become, in fact, an opinion columnist.

I don't want to see her resign. I want to see Tony Snow pull her press pass to the White House press briefings.
