An empty canvas when it comes to crime, Phil Angelides paints himself as tough on the issue as anybody, a death penalty supporter who also backs California's "three strikes" sentencing law, if not entirely to the hilt.
But the state treasurer has yet to take a position on "Jessica's Law," the initiative slated for the November ballot that promises to run convicted sex offenders out of town, or at least prohibit them from living within 2,000 feet of parks or schools.
Without staking out a solid position on the sex offender statute, Angelides has left himself open to attacks from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's political camp. The Republican incumbent firmly favors the law, and his press aides make a regular point of pounding Angelides for laying back on the measure.
"It's clear that Phil Angelides does not understand what's necessary to protect Californians," said Schwarzenegger campaign spokesman Matt David.

You'd think with his 3 lovely daughters Angelides parades in his ads, he'd support Jessica's Law.
What a slime.
I guess Democrats/liberals are just ambivalent about Jessica's law
(and similar measures).
I guess they don't like the possiblities that some of their fellow travelers

He's waiting for the polls and campaign donors to tell him what he thinks.
