After all this talk, at the end of the day either one wants Santorum to win against Casey or not. Bottom line: Rick is the best young conservative in the Senate since Dan left in 1989 to be the Vice President. To lose him would be terrible.
Sorry, but you don't have a clue if you really believe what you just said about Ricky.
He has been co-opted and corrupted by the system since he got to DC. The only question is whether he went there with that intent or not.
He deliberately chose to turn his back on the values that he claimed meant so much to him just to keep his powerful position in the Senate. If he cared so much about our values he would chosen principle and not worried about the position.
He can no longer be trusted to do the right thing especially when it counts or when voting the wrong way has a political payoff for him.
What are you? A liar, a fool, or just a jerk?
I have stated plainly why I think that Santorum is not a conservative and is not worthy of keeping that seat.
Two years ago when everyone thought that he would easily win reelection, I warned them that he would lose and why. I begged people to get him to clean up his act or force a replacement so that a real conservative could win and he could avoid an embarrassing defeat.
Now it looks like he even realizes that he going to lose and I have no guilt in this. I'm just the messenger telling people what his record really is. He dug his own grave and dared conservatives to push him in. His lose is on his shoulders, not mine.
Now understand this ( o ) Ricky holds ONE seat. The GOP has a FIVE seat majority. How does losing ONE seat turn the Senate over to the freaking dems?
Santorum cannot be trusted to do what's right. He will pick what is politically advantage to him -- just like his mentor Arlen Specter does.
To say that he is better than Casey is likely accurate. To call him conservative is just plain BS and willfully blind to his own words and his own record.
You have FReepmail.
I could be way off, but I bet that Santorum IS upset with the inconvenient truth that he had to publicly back Arlen. I'm sure he has back door channels to Toomey, who will reappear.
Sorry, but you are mistaken. Toomey was a threat to Santorum's image as 'the conservative senator from PA'.
And that's all it is -- an image.
When you look at the crap that he champions and votes for, he is little different from his mentor, Arlen Specter. This has been an ongoing debate on the PA page. Early this morning I posted an email that came from the PA Republican State Committee listing 50 reasons to vote for him.
A few are good, from a conservative standpoint. Some are totally irrelevent. Most are unconstitutional pork barrel spending programs and attempts to control our lives.
He is not a conservative except in the media portrait. If Toomey would have won the election, Santorum would have then been relegated to the '2nd most conservative from PA' and that would not have helped his chances of winning the WH.
The irony is that in backing Specter, he doomed his chances of winning the WH and even his reelection this year.
[Why are we so indifferent to Santorum?]
Only speaking for myself, I'm indifferent because I live in Ohio.
We've got our own problems here.
Remember, this is the state that elected RINO hippie-murderer-defending Specter, never mind D Murtha.
LOL - that's what I'd say!
Naah, that was surely about MD. Sarbanes and our little miss fruitcake butterball, Mikulski.
Thank you for posting it. I wanted to say it on the board but wanted to maintain some semblence of adhering to the rules. Your comments on me amounted to a personal attack and I responded in kind.
If you think that the GOP will ever have principled people holding office, you have to start removing those who aren't faithful to the concepts of conservatism.
One of two things will happen if we don't remove them and the first has been happening for a while.
1] Conservatives are leaving the party, but they are not all rushing to third parties. They are just leaving. They will no longer support a party that doesn't support their values. That may not be an option that you like or support, but it is a fact of political life. When enough leave, the GOP will be in the minority for generations.
2] Conservatives stay and keep electing any "R" that the party puts up and we end up being just a lighter shade of Democrat in which case the GOP will be left on the ash heap of history and the Republic is finished.
We have to be different if we are to be better than the Dems. Go to the PA page and look at the list of reasons why the PA Republican State Committee thinks that we should reelect Santorum. If his name wasn't on the list, you'd think that it was about Arlen Specter or Bob Byrd.
Maybe that's who you want to represent you, but I don't. Maybe that's what you think the GOP should be about, but I don't.
I don't get moved by arguments such as 'the other guy will be worse' or by fearmongering that if I don't vote for this jerk, the whole world as we know will end. No matter how you paint it, Ricky holds one seat. I'm not about to reward him for his betrayal and reelect him to do more of the same things in that list of 'accomplishments.
I will help a real conservative to win in other race to offset Ricky's loss, but I will not vote for him unless the Lord himself commands me to and in the meantime, I will expose him for the fraud that he is.
Maybe, but then he wrote a small article or letter to a conservative Catholic magazine, Crisis, I think, where he defended his support of Specter. I didn't need to read that.
"but I will not vote for him unless the Lord himself commands me to..."
Did you say, "the Lord"? Did the Lord tell you to tell me to kiss your ass in the freepmail you sent me? Did He also have you draw your lovely picture of the same? We obviously don't serve the same Lord. Nice knowing you. Consider this my last response to you.
No, the Lord didn't tell me to do those things. My baser self got the best of me.
But I do cherish the hypocrisy when it gets on it's high horse.
You chastise me when I react badly, but conveniently forget that it was your deliberate misprepresentation of me and my intentions that triggered my anger.
Yeah, rather than spend time in honest debate or in apologizing to me, your time would be better spent asking the Lord to help you with your own nasty nature.
Good bye.
We can agree to disagree on this. I don't find your argument compelling.
Did you go to the PA forum and read the list? Let's start there and maybe that will give you some perspective.
Once you see what he spends his time and our money on, my position will make a lot more sense to you.
Honestly, no. However, I live in PA and pay attention, and generally speaking like the way he votes. I'm sure there are many spending bills that I would have a problem with that he voted for. I'm also sure that when it comes to spending bills his vote one way or another doesn't mean spit. That's where we need a line item veto back, as congress does a poor job with one of it's main jobs. Rick is a solid vote in areas where every vote counts. Goin' on vacation now, so no further replies from me on this, my friend!
I love Rick. He is not perfect but he is one of the better ones. I am heartbroken!
He did a reasonable job with Alito. I won't hold that against either of them.
Considering Santorum is one of the most hated Senator by the left, his probable defeat would be a shame.
Even if conservatives had supported him though, I think he would lose anyway; too much of the middle of the road crowd has shifted towards Casey.
