Peretz: No decision to delay outpost evacuation

Police, IDF continue preparation for outpost evacuation, and thus far Defense Minister Amir Peretz has not postponed the plan; but Gaza incursion could cancel evacuation

Ronny Sofer

Despite the rising tensions with the Palestinians and the IDF's large-scale preparations for incursions into Gaza, Defense Minister Amir Peretz has not decided to cancel next week's evacuation of illegal outposts in the West Bank.

However, defense officials said, "The evacuation is dependent on a possible incursion into the Gaza Strip."

Officials estimated that should a large-scale offensive be launched to free abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, the evacuation would be postponed.

Police and IDF forces have been instructed to prepare for the evacuation of 13 outposts in the West Bank next week.

IDF troops have ringed the Gaza Strip in anticipation for a ground offensive, which might require extra troops.

The options available to Peretz are well-defined: The release of Gilad Shalit is a top priority, with the second priority being operations against the terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip as decided by the security cabinet on Sunday. So it is possible that despite Peretz and Olmert's will to evacuate the outposts, the implementation of the evacuations may be delayed.

Given a choice of whether Olmert will take on the Palestinians or the Settlers, my bet is on the settlers. That's his track record. The very fact that he lets Peretz make a comment like this is disgusting.

Defense Ministry Officials: Kidnapping Will Not Delay Outpost Destruction
22:07 Jun 26, '06 / 30 Sivan 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Officials from the office of the Defense Minister, Amir Peretz, denied that the kidnapping of Corporal Gilad Shalit would delay the expected destruction of several outposts in Judea and Samaria.

Advisors to Peretz said today (Monday) that the exact timing of the outpost destruction has not yet been set and they admitted that it is possible that the kidnapping affair may have an influence on the timing of the evacuations.

In other words, nothing really changed. Israel will continue retreating and empowering the terrorists by uprooting Jews from their homes. The government is not proceeding now with the expulsion because the timing looks bad not because it has reconsidered the policy. Israel's March Of Folly continues.
