Rudy is NOT pro-gun
Oops---meant pro-gun control.
Is it that difficult to list specifics as to why Giuliani should be POTUS?? You Rudyophiles should be able to click his qualifications off without hesitation. Instead you offer yet more vague sentiments.
Is this what Rudy will tell non-NYC residents out on the campaign trail -'just vote for me, if you lived in New York City when I was mayor you'd understand why!'.
Giuliani will sell himself or not, that's up to him.
I experienced his leadership. Sometimes he mightily pissed me off. I saw him accomplish what was said to be impossible. No one running accomplished anything that comes close. The best the others have done is minor while saying and voting the right way.
If I find someone who I personally experience as giving great service, from a car mechanic to a barber and anything else even governing, I recommend that person to friends and family.
Nobody's perfect. Giuliani can be a world class a**hole. Yet he accomplished great things and is a proven outstanding leader exactly in the areas that we desperately need today. And maybe we even need a world class a**hole to fight the war.
I dont care if he wants to run or not - Cheney/Rice or Rumsfeld/Rice (or any combination of them) is my first choice.
Don't listen to the liberal media telling us who our best candidate is.
Now, I 'll tell you one thing Rudy oughta do right now----he oughta tell his supporters to shut up.
Rudy is trying hard to look legit----to reinvent himself as Friend of All Things Christian----but the utter disdain, contempt, and condescension Rudyphiles evince for the very voters Rudy needs to establish himself as a legit Republican candidate is hurting his chances bigtime.
Rudy should figure out it's offensive to potential voters knowing these intellectually facile snobs are the people Rudy would employ (on the far-fetched chance he actually gets elected).
I want to keep an open mind. I'd like to read up on all the candidates. Maybe you would know? Who is the candidate of the certifiably crazy?
" I'm thrilled, just thrilled, there are people who consider me Presidential
timber, and are pushing my candidacy. Must be my radiant smile. Tee-hee."
I'd vote for Giuliani. In fact, considering the dwarfs among the other Republican probables (no offense to dwarfs), Rudy's probably my first choice.
I guess we're a minority here, but I agree with your comments. One of the weaknesses of the purely ideological conservatives is that they can't discern leadership, and probably don't value it.
WE'RE BEING INVADED! CLOSE THE BORDERS NOW!!! (How's that for appealing to our fears?)
Giuliani is a great leader. He took apart the Mob so completely that it has never recovered. He governed "the city that can't be governed." He did so much good in such a systematic way that Noo Yawk is still in pretty good shape under Bloomnerd. Rudy showed tremendous leadership in NYC on and after 9/11. I think he'd be a good candidate - much better than McCain. Allen I don't know much about. If Rudy's soft on certain conservative issues, it's up to "da base" to roar on those issues to keep him in line. Our voices can make a difference - the conservative outcry prevented Miers, and produced Alito. My sentiments exactly. The thing that worries me most about Giuliani is gun control. But as you say, I think we can keep him in line on that one. Where does he stand on CFR? I have to find that out. If he's the same as McCain on that issue, then I have to rethink my support for Giuliani, which is based on this: the number one issue is terrorism. Let's not forget that. Giuliani is an anti-terrorism leader with proven credentials. And that's what we need.
Rudy's "base" at this point in time is not necessarily Republican or Democrat, it is the American public. His leadership during and after 9/11 has earned him respect all across this country. People may not vote for him, but they will at least give him serious consideration. And his support cuts across conservative, independent, and liberal voters. 2008 is shaping up to be very very interesting.
Although I have no inside knowledge, I bet Rudy's position on gun control might be somewhat different today than it was pre-9/11. One reason is the accumulating evidence that more guns = less crime; the other is 9/11 and the WOT in general.
Good points, all.
I oppose him on 2nd Amendment grounds. That good enough for you?
