A rapist whose victims included "Top Gun" actress Kelly McGillis got taxpayer-funded Viagra for years, despite his fiendish history, it was revealed yesterday as he was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Serial sex predator Leroy Johnson was prescribed the erectile dysfunction pill by doctors at the Bronx-based Fordham-Tremont Community Mental Health Center from early 2003 to mid-2005, according to court records.
The health center stopped doling out the little blue pills to Johnson only after new DNA tests linked him to a 1996 knife-point double rape - bringing his total number of rape victims to five.
Center officials didn't return calls; Johnson's extensive sex crime history would have been available to doctors when they began seeing him in 2002. Johnson, arrested for the 1996 rapes last year, was convicted June 13.
The health center's Viagra-for-a-rapist treatment plan came to light yesterday as he was slapped with the max for the rapes - and as his two victims gave wrenching accounts of the emotional fallout.
"The person I was is gone. I mourn the loss of her every single day," said one of the women attacked in their shared Greenwich Village apartment "I will go through the whole of my life never knowing who I was going to be."

Johnson's first rape was at age 13. As a 15-year-old crackhead and juvenile-jail escapee, he and an accomplice forced their way into McGillis' Upper West Side apartment, raping both the young actress and her roommate at knifepoint.
Freed on that rape by 1989, Johnson attacked a Midtown nurse he was supposed to be protecting while snatching a purse on his first day of a security job.

Hmm, they loaded his gun for him, how nice.
It'd be nice if the vicitims of his viagra fueled rapes could sue the snot out of the government, but I'm not holding my breath.
That just about sums it up, eh?
I heard that doctors were practicing their facelifts at a prison hospital...free new identity, sign up here...
Uh-huh. Just great.
And we're supposed to accept that the system works.
I wonder about the ethnicity of this Leroy Johnson...did it say?
I wonder how our Libertarian 'legalize all drugs' folks feel about this. Comment?
Does it matter? He's a rapist.
Can't sell that crap to me. We the taxpayers are responsible for putting up with this bullshit. If we the taxpayers get dinged for it, maybe we'll demand better.
No it doesn't matter, other than the fact that rape is a crime of rage and not passion.
I suppose they'd point out the this particular damage was caused by a legal, prescribed drug.
Legalize all guns and the problem of people who commit crimes while on drugs will go away.
And that would be tragic, since the people who provided it to him obviously were wrong in doing so, thus giving the drug a bad name when it could be very helpful to some.
Rush Limbaugh 'comes' to mind...
Most would probably believe that your question is inane, since Viagra is legal with a prescription, and we're talking about taxpayers buying sex drugs for convicted sex offenders.
The parallels between that and allowing law abiding citizens to spend their own money on the drug of their choice exist only in your own head.
I think the drug was crack, not Viagra.
"I wonder how our Libertarian 'legalize all drugs' folks feel about this. Comment?"
Nomination for dumbest post of the day.
Since you put it that way, where is the line to be drawn on what taxpayers are supposed to provide for criminals? Is it okay to provide methadone for heroin addicts? Antabuse for alcoholics?
Yeah, and there IS a profile, believe it or not. Odds are he was a victim of molestation himself.

Well, if were going to have a socialized prescription drug program, which I dont support, I would imagine that those drugs would be acceptable since theyre designed to cure your medical problem and help you become a productive member of society.
Viagra for a rapist does nothing but allow them to continue their criminal behavior.
He needs a permanent erectile dysfunction. Dare I say the name? It ends in 'ectomy and rhymes with detective.
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
I agree. I'd be very interested to read the clinical indications for the prescribing of that drug, although I'm thinking they failed to discern his criminal sexual proclivities.
If this group is nonprofit, tax them, if they're not, defund them... Hey, New York Times, why don't you make a big deal out of this story?
Yes, there is a profile for rapists and many of them were molested. There we agree. But generally speaking race doesn't enter into that either.
Please forgive me if I misconstrued your intent. But I believe you asked: "And we're supposed to accept that the system works. I wonder about the ethnicity of this Leroy Johnson...did it say?"
I'm having a little trouble figuring out how that applies to giving Viagra to the man. Perhaps I'm missing something?
BTW, giving the guy ED drugs is beyond idiotic. It's appalling.
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
Appalling is right! I googled and this is what I got:
http://gainscenter.samhsa.gov/pdfs/conference/Participant.pdf
It's a list of all the attendees of a conference! The names I saw were mostly state employees! Yikes, to think the MHMR is that cavalier with their Rx is frightening.
Polly, I normally eschew hasty generalizations. However, it came to my attention in some 5-6 years as a welfare worker that persons of other than caucasian ethnicity were a great deal more likely to suffer from environmentally related deficits.
Of course, I caveat that statement with the obvious codicile that it pertains only to my immediate surrounding area...
One just has to love the liberal leftist democrats. A convicted serial rapist can get Viagra free with no encumbrances and MSM quiet complacence. Rush Limbaugh gets caught at the airport with a bottle of Viagra and the MSM has coverage wall to wall about it.
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
Not funny, but..........
He needed the little blue pill otherwise he would have had to get arrested for 'assault with a dead weapon'.
(this Leroy Johnson person needs a lop job on the old Johnson)

They would say that it is a prime example of how our failure to provide free long-term psychological counseling to these 'misguided' people is the route of the problem. Had this nice, misunderstood fellow been given the opportunity to delve into his childhood traumas to determine why he had these problems, perhaps he could have been gently guided away from his unsocialized behavior patterns and gradually detoxed from viagra to some far less harmful herbal remedy that would have allowed him to live in society as a fully-realized individual who saw his way clear to vote Democratic.
Yep, that's about it in a nutshell. Nut being the operative word...
A nice consent decree with the government might work out.

Boy you are confused.
If you ever meet a person who advocates taxpayer-funded free long-term psychological counseling for people, you have not met a libertarian.
Do you have any concept what libertarian even means?
kinda sounds like u were raising the question of whether McGillis had been raped by a black teenager.
You're right about all but the teenage part. It was only a supposition, though, nothing more. I don't imply that white males are without the violence required to do likewise.
'Legalize all drugs' covers a whole lot of ground...
in this era of PC, we'll unlikely see pic of criminal, or statement as to ethnicity; facts are elusive.
am kinda surprised that her rape wasn't reported before(?)and now it is.
I was surprised too, since she's so well known. The last one I know of that was publicized was Fran Drescher, and I can't swear to it but I think it ultimately had an impact on the dissolution of her marriage to her childhood sweetheart.
isn't confidentiality/privacy available to victims as well as perps?! i guess not in court cases...only perps get help from media....
I think she (Fran) made it her intention to try to help other victims of violent crime.
Hate to burst your politically correct bubble, but sometimes, it does matter. For example, take a look here: The Duke Rape Case: The Truth About Interracial Rape And Violence. The fact that blacks rape whites at about twice the unadjusted rate that whites rape blacks is more remarkable when adjusted for population, which shows a black rapist is about 13 times more likely to rape a white woman than a white rapist is to rape a black woman. The figures for homosexual rapes of whites by blacks in prison are even higher. It's equally evil, but it's certainly not "equal opportunity."
It also matters, when say, the rapist is a Muslim.
Fred, I suspected what you've documented and I hate to admit I was too lazy to go on the record. You're a gentleman and I thank you.
Why is that? I was just curious how they'd feel about this. Is it 'dumb' to wonder what someone's view is on something? If you really believe that to be the case, I'll bet your kids are as dumb as rocks (if you have any).
Perhaps, but I was wondering what they thought of this particular situation. Should the man have been denied a prescription for this particular drug given his behavioral background? I'm not sure where they'd fall on that issue.
By your post it sounds like your concern was not so much that the man was given a prescription, but that it was paid for by our tax dollars. Is that the case?
