Mexico decries execution in Texas
Agencia EFE ^ | 28 June 2006 | Staff

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:03 AM PDT by Kitten Festival

Mexico City, Jun 28 (EFE).- Authorities here expressed regret Wednesday over the execution of Mexican citizen Angel Maturino Resendiz, the notorious "Railroad Killer," at a prison in Huntsville, Texas.

Resendiz, sentenced to death in 2000 for the rape-murder of a Houston doctor but also believed responsible in a dozen other slayings, was executed Tuesday night by lethal injection "despite medical evidence about the severe mental disturbances he suffered," the Mexican foreign ministry said in a communique.

A Texas court ruled last Wednesday that Resendiz, who asked for forgiveness before being executed and said he deserved his fate, was mentally competent for the application of capital punishment. Both his defense lawyers and Mexican diplomats filed multiple appeals challenging that ruling, but they were rejected.

The Mexican government, in commenting on the execution, noted its own "absolute opposition to the death penalty." Lawmakers here officially abolished capital punishment in June 2005, more than 40 years after the country's last execution. EFE gt/dr

I've been waiting to see this. Mexico can just take a chill pill. Look at how many people this maniac killed. Oh, I forgot - he recanted in the end and admitted he'd let the devil run his life. He knew he had a choice and was therefore not a loony as he tried to pretend...

Mexico loves their serial killers (who cross the border NUMEROUS times) but doesn't want to keep tabs on their visiting citizens.

Mexico does execute its worst criminals it suicides them.

This distinction gives Mexico the right to look down its nose at us.

They waited after he was executed to complain.

A few years ago there was a suspected murder from California in jail in Canada. The US wanted him, the Canadians balked. The US said fine, go ahead and keep him. When he gets out he will be roaming Canadian streets. The SC of Canada said to the US, Please take him.

If Mexico ever complains again, the US or Texas should say okay, we will deport him to Mexico City under darkness. See how they would like that.

...said in a communique

Read in article recently on ways in which the press has adopted the language of communism without most of us paying attention.

The word "comunique" is straight out of the old Soviet play book. FWIW.

Bravo!Bravo!

I've followed this case since I was living in San Antonio many years ago.

*******************

Mexico currently has a serial killer or two in Juarez Mexico near El Paso Tx. They kill women from the factories... I'm sure they want him to live, as well. The northern portion of Mexico is without government - this is not an exaggeration.

"Lawmakers here officially abolished capital punishment in June 2005, more than 40 years after the country's last execution.

And there lies part of the primary reason Mexico has gangs running around shooting up the locals with impunity in places such as Nuevo Laredo and the police force in that city basically no longer is able to "protect the people". They cannot even protect themselves.

There are many needed fixes for Mexico, IMO, and this one change would certainly be a step in the right direction. However, the country is far too corrupt to see this happen, at least not likely in my lifetime.

Funny, how the mexican government is so concerned about this murderer being executed in the US, while hundreds of innocent people are murdered every day in the stereets of mexican cities.

You don't see the politicians and diplomats running around filing petitions on their behalf.

What are they going to do with the murderers who beheaded the three police officers in Mexico? Could it be that they'll be shot "resisting arrest"?

That is, if they ever even catch them. Who knows - they're probably here in the U.S. by now.)

So, what are we to make of this? Mexico opposes the death penalty. Really? Consider all of the deaths in Mexico at the hands of the government there. Death for being in the wrong drug cartel - meaning one that is in competition with the official Mexican government drug cartel, and we know there is one. Or being murdered in a Mexican government jail or prison for being an American who had an automobile accident in Tijuana. Or even for being a Border Patrol Agent on the US side of the border when the Mexican army decides to go north for firearms qualification. Mexico can go to hell, but that would be a step up.

So naturally, they offered an alternative. That Mexico will of course pay lifetime costs of trial and incarceration for all of its citizens here illegally who commit crimes.
