The Good War(Exellent! Must Read!)
The Boston Herald ^ | June 27, 2006 | Jules Crittenden/

Some people just don’t get it.

Five years on, some people remain unaware that this is war; that we are facing an enemy that will do anything in its power to destroy us. The fact that on any given day we are free to fly around the world, drive our cars without restriction and buy as much food as we like in rich variety seems to have confused them.

The lack of U-boats attacking the shipping lanes has lulled some people into thinking this is not actually a war. Not a real war, certainly not a good war, not like World War II. They mock the very notion that it is a war, having fun with the name “Global War on Terror.” They put forward the notion that, like almost everything else in our American lives, this thing that has been called a war is a choice. A bad choice.

Who can blame them? Even fighting in this war, unlike most of the great wars our that threatened our existence in the past, is a choice made by a small percentage of Americans who have joined the Armed Forces.

George Bush, while announcing that we were at war five years ago, made a decision to encourage Americans to go about their business as usual. Rather than mobilizing the country for war, he decided he could fight this unconventional war by unconventional means, and with the forces already at hand. Normalcy had its uses as a weapon. It showed that our enemy could not hobble us.

"There are some people who will never get that. Their actions show that they are not worthy of the freedoms that American soldiers have died to give them. Those freedoms are theirs anyway, the birthright of even the most despicable self-centered coward who is born American. But there comes a point when you have to ask, which side are they on? There comes a point when even professional capriciousness and misguided idealism - to be charitable - have to be labelled for what they are: Giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Treason."

I seem to notice fewer planes "mysteriously" blowing up these days.

Count me in the "in other respects" camp. I prefer we be mobilized for the real war this is.

Treason? But, of course, it is, by any legal definition.

However, what is a "War on Global Terrorism?" It's the same dance to a different etymological tune.

Who started the war? Was it the 9/11 terrorists? Was it Osama bin Laden's "Al Qaeda"? Was it Saudi Arabia, the home of origin of the 9/11 terrorists, Osama bin Laden, and their Wahhabist brand of Islam? Was it Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, the Sudan, or Somalia, home of Al Qaeda military style, and state sponsored training camps? Was it Iran by itself?

Perhaps all of these entities together? But what do they have in common?

ISLAM IS THE ENEMY

Islam, that venerable religion of the Seventh Century, which nearly brought all of Europe under the Muslim sword, has again reared it's ugly head. It's adherents have adopted Islam in it's purest, most historically accurate form, and we now have undeclared war on the USA, and every non-Muslim nation of the world by the loose set of confederates described in my first paragraph.

Oh, I've made another mistake. The war is not "undeclared", but merely unacknowledged by the non-Muslim West. Muslim's have been writing and all but shouting their intention to bring all nations under their submission, preferably by the sword.

This war is a war against Islam, not because Americans "hate" any particular religion or cultural peoples, but because Islam's adherents have dedicated themselves to killing and destroying us. Until American recognizes who the enemy is, that there are no truly "peaceful Muslims", but only "radical Muslims" and millions of new Muslim recruits, we will not win this war. We need to recognize Islam as not merely "just another religion", but a religion with nationalistic prerogatives. Victory means defeating Islam, and defeating Islam, unfortunately will mean closing Mosques, exposing Islamic lies (i.e. their false history), and properly identifying Islam by the actions of it's adherents, not it's self-claims. Islam is not a "religion of peace", but a "religion of domination by submission". Islam is Satanic hate in it's purest form.

Certainly, there are billions of nice, gentle Muslim people living their own lives in "submission" to Allah, and not harming anyone. However, once they or their children study the Quran, if the are faithful, they will understand the reason for all the evil's of the world is a world that is not in submission to Islam. If they are faithful, they will become Jihadists, new soldiers in the larger Islamic army. Maybe their "Jihad" will only involve "outreach" to non-Muslims. However, there's nothing in the Quran to stop them from recognizing their true role to rule over the "diminutive" (that's us, the non-Muslims), and do whatever their faithful heart desires. That could mean peaceful civic actions, or it could mean raping non-Muslim women in the name of Allah, killing innocents, and driving airliners into the skyscrapers of the "apostates and the transgressors". All actions by the faithful are the same, and all will be "rewarded by Allah".

So again, Islam is a religion of hate, and it's followers, every single one, soldiers in Allah's army. They want to force my family and yours into submission, and they are committed to doing so to the life of last man, woman or child on the face of the earth.

Now, I'm sorry if I sound "hate filled". I am not. I do not hate Muslims. They hate me. I soberly recognize the threat, I will not submit, and I will defend my family, and my country. However, if YOU think that Islam is a "religion of peace", or Muslims, merely peaceful followers of that religion, YOU are deluded. That collective delusion amongst Americans could kill my family.

In other respects, it was a mistake. With our military now hyperextended in Iraq, we could use an army twice as large or even larger.

HORSE DUNG! This is one of the greatest successful wars in the history of warfare. After 5 years we have liberated more territory and people and lost less men then we lost in the first 90 minutes of 9/11. By contrast it would be like defeating the Japs in WWII in the same time period loseing less than 2000 men! FDR lost on average 350 men a day! He lost more men every 8 days then Bush has lost since the invasion of Afganistan!

Saw this linked earlier via Tim Blair's blog. Really an outstanding piece, I wish I could have said all that Crittenden said here.

I think he's referring to the "...business as usual with the forces we have..." thought. I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.

I too don't necessarily fall for the "hyperextended in Iraq" statement, but mobilizing the country for a pro-longed clash of civilizations would do the US much better than TROP speeches and suggesting we go shopping. Using the war as a pre-text, we could have already opened up ANWR, built the Cape Wind project, started some new refineries and nuke plant, and got the country on a solid footing toward energy independence from foreign (Mid-East) oil. Among other things we could be doing to our benefit...

yep and before it's all over with AC will be spot on with her,

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."
