For generations Orthodox Jews (regardless of how fundamentalist they might be) were used as an excuse to bash chr*stian majorities and call for strict secularism. Now all one has to do is to read the posts at Ha'aretz to see radical secularist Jews absolutely outraged and calling for the hide of Orthodox Jews--because of the treatment given Fundamentalist chr*stians in an Orthodox neighborhood!

I don't mind my beloved "redneck" people being used as a flag by some hypocritical secular bastard (in fact, it's about time!), but did they have to use them against Orthodox Jews in Israel???

I believe somebody said upthread that they have their own battalion in the IDF.

I knew about that unit, but I mean to say, why can't all the men be conscripted as other Israelis are? They sure don't have an aversion to mixing it up and even rioting when it suits them. Their agenda is just not the State of Israel's agenda.

I think it's kind of like that saying about your freedom ends where the tip of my nose begins, or something like that. I can understand that these people's "faith tradition" (hate that term) compels them to go out and "witness" to everyone they can, whether the person wants to hear it or not. But they shouldn't be surprised when they don't get a nice reaction, and while I don't condone the violence, I know it's almost impossible to get these people to *s h u t u p* and I understand.

As a Catholic, and former seeker, I resent them because I think they run off more people than they reach.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you, as a Noachide, regard Mosaic Law? I've never heard of this sect (?) before.

(See? That's how one evangelizes, you get people to ask questions.)

What, don't like your car rocked? :)

It IS factual because the sources are 100% trustworthy. My own mother witnessed it because it happened in front of her. You may choose to not believe it but it doesn't change the fact that it has and does happen. It sucks and those people should be ashamed of themselves but in no way does it make all ultra-Orthodox Jews guilty of it. Only those who have actually done such things.

Don't be so touchy...it gets you nowhere. Trust me...I KNOW there are plenty of people who belong to the Russian Orthodox faith whm are bigoted and detest the Jews. Those certain individuals are idiots and only shame themselves by their bigotry yet they share the same faith as I do. I do not condone their behavior and will be the first to tell them they're idiots and are not behaving in a manner consistent with true Orthodoxy...and I am not so naive or ignorant to ever suggest that people like them don't exist...even if they make my religion look bad.

People can be idiots and do dumb things. So don't get huffy and offended that SOME Ultra Orthodox Jews behave badly and spit (literally) on clergymen of other faiths. They have and it's wrong and it doesn't mean that ALL Jews are guilty of it. And don't be so naive as to believe that these things do not happen because they most certainly do. And it's a shame.

OK, I didn't go to bed yet.

I cannot this night get into all of your points. Maybe later. I hope so.

Fundamental Christians are bound by the words of the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19 is the favorite quote for most of them in my experience. They have largely messed up the meaning of that particular passage, but at least most people have heard it, or of it.

From that one verse...the world changed forever, even though the words were spoken decades before they were actually documented. Well, if you can believe what the records say.

Likely not if you subscribe to the Higher Critic's version of the radix of that work!

I've come to a place in my life where I think that I should share my insights.

The problem is, I ain't much of a BS artist. I ain't eloquent, and I really don't think that I need to be. I always resort to that Exodus 4:10 thingy verse.

I don't know Hebrew, I don't know much Greek (even the Koine), and I don't know much Latin either.

On the other hand, I ain't exactly a tree stump either.

Jesus also told his Disciples that if they were not welcomed in a village they should shake the dust of that place off their sandals and move on. Certainly not stick around until they got their butts beat.

"Love your neighbor as yourself"

Well; given their neighbors; I can see their taking offense. Besides; 'message t-shirts' should stay home; when one is a 'guest'. . .tourist.

I am a Christian; but see 'red' when that old bumper sticker surfaces. . .'Christians are not perfect. . . they are just forgiven' or something like that. Figured the first cue is to 'forgive' those who carry this message on their bumper. . .

If the reporting is accurate, this incident is disgusting.

What is disgusting or at the leasst inappropriate; is the 'Christian insensitivity and arrogance; in assuming these Jews-who-live-with-terrorists for neighbors. . .might appreciate a Christian dictum on how to be neighborly. . .

Well Mr Crane,

That sounds closer to the teachings of the Watchtower Bible and Printing Society than anything that I have heard in a good few years.

Indeed, but in this context, you have missed the fundamental point. The Jews while not excluded from the New Covenant, were certainly considered to be fallow ground.

I can see the argument opposed, but really, those words were not meant for the conversion of Jews.

Gosh it is late for me. I can in no way express myself properly.

Later.

will sometimes throw stones at women whose legs and arms are not, in the haredi view, adequately covered.

This can't really be true, can it?

My youngest daughter was walking there wearing a tight-fitting short top and hip-hugger skirt that showed her midriff, and she got yelled at by some old woman.

I yell at her too for not dressing properly, but she always says, "you never give me money to buy new clothes." When I point out that she just bought these clothes, she says, "yeah but this is what was on sale. You tell me never to buy anything that isn't on sale."

Geez. Teenagers.

"You asked for evidence of Israeli anti-Christian bigotry. Check out this quote concerning Christian missionaries from an Israeli National Radio host"

For the record "Israeli National Radio" is NOT a part of the Israeli government. The opposite is true. They have a history of being banned in Israel for being right wing and hostile to the Israeli government. It is also known as Arutz Sheva. Politically they are for retaining all of the territories and not trading land that God gave the Jews for a peace figment.

I know what Fundamental chr*stians believe. And I constantly attack higher criticism. In fact, my constant harping on the issue probably drives some folks bonkers. I'm the Bible-bangin'est son of a gun on this forum.

I don't accept the "new testament" as part of the Bible, but there was a Bible before there was a "new testament." And lest you feel the need to "show" me that the "new testament" is the "fulfillment" of the "old," I used to believe that myself and I know all the arguments and reject them.

It's the chr*stians who want a literal "new testament" but hypocritically dismiss Genesis as myth or allegory who burn my biscuits!

In Israel the Orthodox ally with the Palestinians. That's their loss.

Clever daughter you have :)

I can understand disapproval or lecturing, it was the stone-throwing that really, really surprised me (I'm still skeptical of that part).

Gee, I wonder what Jesus would do if he was attacked by an angry mob of Jews?

He would probably hope Romans wouldn't show up and attack harder.

Usually there is another side to a story. I think that people in this country would be more understanding of each other if the news media would aim to take a more neutral stance, and if the readers (from all sectors) would assume that if a report involving behavior of any one particular sector seems outlandish, there`s probably more to the story.

Very true, and it always goes along with considering the source.

In this case, Haaretz is an Israeli news source, but most of the time their writers don't seem to like Israel very much. They want Israel to unilaterally give up all their safeguards, and don't see the suicidal aspects of their perferred national policy.

IOW, it is wise to take everything from Haaretz with the proverbial grain of salt.
