As a textbook example of hi-tech precision bombardment it could hardly be improved. Smoke was still rising yesterday from the scorched wreckage of the six transformers at Gazas only power station, each destroyed by a single missile fired by an Israeli warplane some 10 hours earlier.
Had they hit the huge cylindrical diesel tank 100 metres away they would have set the whole power station alight. But the strike was clinically effective, cutting all the electricity to 700,000 Gaza consumers, threatening water supplies and depriving its public of light, cooking, broadcast news, and a crucial issue in scorching summer temperatures fans.
Im so surprised that they did this, said Dr Derar Abu Sisi, the operations manager at the Al Nusirat power station. We have been right through the worst of the intifada but this didnt happen. It would, Dr Abu Sisi said, take a minimum of three to six months to restore supplies at a cost between $5m (£2.8m) and $7m. The Geneva Convention says it is not allowed to attack infrastructure for the civilian people, he added. You might expect that economic infrastructure could be a target in the last stages of a war. But this is not like that.
The damage to Gazas power supply was condemned as unacceptable and barbaric collective punishment of civilians, including women, children and old people by the office of Mahmoud Abbas, which complained it was intensifying what it says are the difficulties he already faces in trying to secure the safe release of Gilad Shalit, the 19-year-old Israeli army corporal abducted by militants including members of Hamass military wing on Sunday.

Wow. Kidnap one guy and they do this? Will Hamas think twice the next time about doing something like this? It had better.
Mazel tov, IAF!
a crucial issue in scorching summer temperatures fans.
That will get everyone's attention ... immediately
Today electricity, tomorrow water. Free Shalit.
The Geneva Convention says it is not allowed to attack infrastructure for the civilian people,
if so knowledgeable, then you must know the Geneva Conventions also condemns terrorism... beheadings, quartering, blowing up of innocent civilians, kidnapping, assassinations.. religious genocide.. etc..
If Hamas controls the Palestinian Authority -- if "controls" is a word that ever can be applied here -- then as the representatives of the Palestinian people they must learn that their actions speak for all Palestinians. So by that logic, all Palestinians are responsible for Hamas's actions in return. Collective authority translates into collective guilt and thus into collective punishment.
Sweet! Let them die of thirst in the dark.
like transit buses, pizza parlors, and civilian houses, schools or where-ever Jews gather? The dismembering of jewish solders, shooting babies in strollers, executing an entire family, children and their mother by shooting them point blank in their car?
Please, lets not have you idiotic Pali-supporters point to "geneva conventions" when these barbaric Islamic animals have no desire to play by them.
I have no sympathy for the filthy murdering animals. You reap what you sow, and my hope is that they will reap a large harvest of misery.
I'll repeat your posting as it is great.....

"The Palestinian People" elected terrorists to run the place, and now they want to say the terrorists don't represent them? Uh...nope, sorry, not buying it. Ka-BOOM!
You know..Israel should knock it off..they might get people mad at them don't you know..
..Ka-BOOM!
BadaBingBoomPING
The Israelis are only trying to cut power for a short amount of time and have showed great restraint in this strike. A transformer yard can be fixed quite quickly. The "months" figure stated by the Palestinian is a lie, unless his crews are really lazy.
If you really want to stop a power plant you put a penetrator into the station itself. If you bust up the concrete floor the generators sit on the whole plant has to be rebuilt.
Expect to hear this term for the next couple weeks. It will be parroted by the MSM, the Palestinian Authority, the Democrats, CAIR and all the other PA sympathizers that ignore Israeli victims and PA terrorism.
Ever see the Next Generation Star Trek where they encounter a really stupid, lazy race that survives by ripping off technology that they don't really understand, and strong-arming others to maintain?
It will take "months" to repair, as long as Hamas funds are locked up because of their own bad choices.

I smell Israeli strategy change.
"It would, Dr Abu Sisi said, take a minimum of three to six months to restore supplies at a cost between $5m (£2.8m) and $7m."
Good! That's 5 to 7 million they won't be spending on bullets, rockets and explosives. In the meantime let the pallies enjoy the fruits of their newly elected leadership.
No, they are not capable of rational thought.
It is a war after all. The current gov't of the Palestinians is Hamas and that is who committed the acts of war. The power plant is a valid war target.
Shalit is probably already dead. The Pali's blood lust is never-ending. Now, just who is "barbaric?"
You, the sand-dwelling idiots...stop killing people over the dead past, and start running some commerce other than letting your "royal" leaders and "holy" imams exploit you, and maybe you will be rich in two generations. Lord, what a gullible breed!
Well, this is rich. The Terrorist Nation now asks for the protection of the Geneva Convention after decades of blowing up Israel women and children on busses, in markets, and on the streets.
I bet a company of military engineers could have that transfomer yard back up and running in less than 72 hours.
I will admit ignorance of some of the specifics, but something just hit me:
Imagine you have a terrorist organization that is operating within your country. Because they are within your country, they are kind of hard to attack and root out. And in an age of political correctness, even though you know they enjoy the support of entire neighborhoods and towns, you just cant really attack entire communities because it is really a police action sort of thing.
Now imagine that you slice off a chunk of your country and give it to these people. They then elect this same organization as the leader of their country. At that point, the next time they do you harm, you are now at war with their country and can attack their country with impunity.
In a sense you have put all the rotten apples in one barrel and have international law behind you to clean house.
The reason I came up with this is that I noticed that Israel has been finally handling this with the Iron Fist they have needed for some time. It is as if they believe something has empowered them to do it right.
Thoughts?

Amen.
Form your post, and by the way...PING
'Monkey see Monkey do in Jihadi Land'.
You have no tag line and that's a beauty.
Bright idea

Whoops! my bad, there's no electricity. No clue for you.
Funny.
Hi, RR.
See my tagline.
I think the Israelis have finally arrived at the obvious answer to their terrorist problems. If they hit us, we hit'em back with overwhelming force, and keep doing that until you modify the behavior of the terror group you are fighting. Kill'em and kill'em quick.
I hope it's not paid for by us. In the long run, I guess we end up paying for everything in the world that breaks.
Exactly. No power is simply the fruits of Hamas-led "diplomacy". Pick stupid leaders who don't value life a whit and you get less than desirable outcomes of their government policies.
The problem is, you have to have a government with the spine and resolve necessary to actually commit to cleaning house. The Israeli government no longer has that type of resolve, IMO. Neither does the U.S. Government.
Remember, this is a "Limited Operation".

The French killed my ancestors, the English killed my ancestors, the British aristocracy exploited my coal-mining Welsh ancestors, the Southerners killed my ancestors, the Germans killed my ancestors, my Uncle died at the hands of the Japanese, and I don't give a rat's backside. The dead are dead, the past is past, and I live in the richest country in the world. I have a home, heat in the winter, coolness in the summer, consumer electronics, two nice cars, a safe and mostly crime-free neighborhood, two healthy children, a medical plan that prevents most diseases, and the biggest fear that I have in my life is that I may eat myself to death because here in the United States we have so much food we eat for entertainment. You guys? You're great grandkids will live in poverty because you are still fighting the last war. You lost. Your leaders exploit you in the name of Allah, your fellow Arabs mouth a good line about how much they care about you, but you notice that they don't invite you to live in their countries. You had plenty of jobs doing work in Israel, but you'd rather blow up pizza parlors full of schoolchildren in the name of some kind of stupid "honor" that has kept you poor and wretched for fifty years when you could be doing the same thing the Jews did and turn YOUR section of desert into green farmland if you would work at it and stop whining.
Can you draw any conclusions from how we live and how you live, guys?
LOL Yes maybe Israeli or American but the Pali's will b*t*h and complain to the UN, EU,etc and let their people starve. The Arab nations will have an uproar, maybe, but they consider the Pali's just a bunch of loser tools. No one will fix those transformers and then the world will turn more against Israel like usual.
I've got a daughter that just joined the IDF. She attempted to aid the Pali's( very liberal) until a dud Qassam went "thud" a few yard from her car outside Sderot. My how she changed!! I say keep the jerks in the dark ages or let the Arab nations open their borders. To all IDF, IAF and intelligence divisions in Y'srael Mazel Tov!
"I hope it's not paid for by us. In the long run, I guess we end up paying for everything in the world that breaks.

The power station that was hit with missiles, is insured by a U.S. company.
LOL! It is amazing how contact with the real world will change the most stedfast of our internal opinions.
I had a friend who said that the way to change a Lib's mind about direct action is to knock them down, apoligise, help them up, promise not to do it again, then repeat the process until learning occurs. I think of this every time somebody brings up the 14 resolutions the Security Council gave to Iraq. Talk is talk, action is action.

They will have to hold their noses again since their totally defective culture would have a hard time figuring out how to make a doorbell transformer. All they can make are bombs and bad rockets. Praise be to Allah for a religion that keeps them stupid and useless to the world.
society....
I don't understand what this means. The U.S. always knocked out power first when going to war, doesn't it?
So is power a "dual use" infrastucture that is fair game because the military uses it? But then what isn't?
Yeah, well Bruce Bannerstein madder...
"Bad people kidnap....Hulk Smash!!!
