Orlando Commissioner Daisy Lynum insisted she did nothing wrong when she called a city officer who pulled over her son a "white boy," and continued her crusade against racial profiling Wednesday night, according to a Local 6 News report.

  "In the last week, I have been called (expletive) more times than I have ever been called probably in my life for calling a white boy a white boy," Lynum said. "Now, when did that become a racial slur."

Lynum also said the city's police department has a problem with racial profiling in front of a group of people at an Orlando church Wednesday night. Lynum encouraged people who believe they have been racially profiled to call the Orlando police Chief Michael McCoy as she did when her son, Juan, 30, was pulled over for a broken headlight on his vehicle.

  "I will call on God and I do, so who is Mike McCoy that I would not call him at 1 a.m.," Lynum said.

  During the traffic stop, Juan Lynum called his mother and allegedly said he must have been stopped by a white police officer because of racial profiling, Local 6 News reported.

  "Daisy Lynum later made the comment that she did not want 'some white boy shooting my son or Tasing him,'" according to a Local 6 report.

McCoy said in Juan Lynum's case, there was no racial profiling, Local 6 News reporter Erik von Ancken said. He also said the "white boy" comment was not good for the department. "We do not want to racially profile anyone," McCoy said. "The Orlando Police Department has taken this issue extremely seriously for a number of years."

McCoy said he likes Daisy Lynum and does not need an apology from her. However, others have asked that she apologize. "(Apologize) for what? Lynum said. "I just said it and I say it every day, when did 'white boy' become a racial slur."

Lynum said she will be at another meeting next week to hear more racial profiling complaints.

don't you know it's a double standard? Once, in high school, a puerto-rican kid called me "white boy" as an insult. I replied and tacked on "brown boy" to the end of my sentence. A teacher overheard the entire situation and, consequently, I got sent to the administrator's office to recieve my punishment while Paco got to stay in the class...nice, huh?

It depends on if the caller is also black or not. I've heard blacks call each other by the "n" name and that's okay, but no non-blacks should dare try it.

It's interesting, I wouldn't find anyone calling my son a "white boy" an insult, and I'd LOL if anyone called him a "honkie". "Poor white trash" is about the only perjorative that would anger me.

I call a lot of my white friends and acquaintances "white boy".

I also joke with the military guys who run into problems here in Hawaii. I tell them that their problem is because they're white.

I haven't had anyone offended at my humorous jabs and not too subtle point that reverse racism is a real problem. The group I used to hang out with all the time was mixed race, with only one genuinely white guy in the group. We called him our token white guy. :-)

I live near Orlando and have watched this woman for some years. This is very typical of her, she's done similar things dozens of times.

I don't know about "white boy," (which IS a slur, anyway you cut it) but just the fact that these officers (adult males) being called "boys" (in itself) is an insult and should not simply be swept under the rug and entire PD should ask for apology.

There is one picture with a man in a suit with his name underneath and the other picture looks like a man with a pearl necklace and small, gold hoop earrings and a fabulous yellow shirt. Below that picture is a quote that gives the last name Lynum as well.

It is true that white folks of an earlier generation would refer to blacks as "boy" in a condescending way. Does not make it right that many blacks and Asians use the term "white boy" with impunity.

I should let it be known that, in my younger years, when a Korean kid used said term in my direction, along with a few other unprintable epithets, he had his buck teeth knocked down his throat.

Rationality tells us that "white boy" should have become a racial slur at the same instant that "black boy" was designated a racial slur.

More than a few "white boys" have woke up with black eyes, after calling a "black boy" black boy, I will bet. And then probably was charged with making a racial slur.

I noticed that when cops stopped calling me "son" or "boy" and started calling me "sir", I started getting in a lot more trouble.

Guys I got in trouble at work by a non sports fan supervisor who overheard me call Mark Prior of the Cubs (who is getting his buttt handed to him as I type this) my boy.

She assumed he was black and called me a racist.

Mark is white. And it was meant he was my special favorite player as anyone with an IQ above 5 would know what I meant.

Now I call him my man. Of course his wife and my husband would be shocked :).
