"The Slimes latest stunt is a vain attempt to stir the interest of readers they are losing."

The irony here is they don't understand why they are losing readers so they keep using yellow ink and cheap shots.

Piss on the lot of them.

Bush is "outraged." So outraged that he hasn't done anything about it. Is there any reason to believe that it isn't going to happen again? Is he going to be outraged then too? If he doesn't do anything about this and when it does happen again, I don't want to hear about how mad he is. He has the power to prevent this from happening but doesn't use it.

As someone pointed out on TV -- it may have been Tony Snow -- the president does NOT have the authority to start na investigation, but the AG does. If Bush called for an investigation, the MSM would use this to attack him that he is stifling the press and wants to abolish the First Amendment -- just before the elections, which may result in the Republicans losing Congress, which would hurt the War on Terror even more.

Sheesh. Calm down. I'm sure things are in the works in both Congress and the Administration. The guy can't just call a press conference to announce he's closing down the Times!

You are misstating the case.

What Tony Snow said was that the President didn't have the power to ask the Attorney General to begin an investigation, and that is pure bunk.

Such an assertion is laughable on its face.

President after President has done just that - requested investigations - as it is one of the powers, indeed, one of the sworn duties of the President.

IMO, if the Administration doesn't go after the NY Times, then the American people will have to do it by the only means we have, don't buy their newspapers. Let their stock go into the toilet bowl so that they have to lay off their staff. After all, it's the American people who will suffer if we have another terrorist attack.

It's not just the Times he needs to go after. He needs to be after the leakers, too. He called for investigations in Plamegate, by all accounts a trivial matter. What is he waiting for?

"...it’s the third time the Times has adopted Benedict Arnold as its role model..."

They have never apologized.
They have never asked for a "do over".
Nor have they acknowledged any wrong doing.
And, they never will.

They are anti-American.

That's what frosts my shorts.

The AG definitely has the authority, in fact he has the responsibility to bring charges.

And we need to be demanding that he does...I have heard NO ONE demand or even suggest this?

Bush, as president = not monarch = can do nothing directly - he cannot even order an investigation. Check the law.

He has quite clearly stated his opinion...but it is the prerogative of the AT and/or the Congress/Senate to take action.

We need to save the fire for those who have the legal power to investigate/indict/ etc.

Bottom line: If the Pres. does not go after these guys then the leak came from the Admin. for some political reason(Heaven only knows why).

Sir, you're an idiot, a liberal, your feet smell, and you don't believe in Jesus. Go away.

I certainly hope this is going to be treated as nothing less than treason. All involved need to be tried for it. How would FDR have handled this situation? How would FDR have handled the Republicans, if they had behaved as the Rats of today have?

The public needs it spelled out- exactly what happened here- what terrorists have been caught, what attacks they did, how many were killed, and what future attacks they were planning- each and every detail should be related to our citizens- then tell them we no longer have this ability now and why- that all leads have been lost- Who knows what the cost will be?

They should bring the bastards to trial- find out who the leakers are- reveal them- no matter who they end up being-Let the court proceeding's begin. This is THE ONLY WAY to convey to the public the seriousness of the crimes that have been committed.

Of course the media and the rats are going to scream that "it's no big deal", and "just politics". Let them prove in court that it's nothing.

I fear that our whimps and cowards will be too afraid to really do what needs to be done. That would be a mistake that will have huge consequences.

Would it be a good idea to let the rats fool the public into thinking that leaking military secrets in a time of war is "just politics" and "no big deal"?

This is literally a matter of life and death.

Believe me when I say this: If there is a terrorist attack in this country that kills or injures any of my family or friends, and it is shown that it could have been prevented by one or more of the outed programs, the NY Slimes WILL PAY!

I'm sure victims' families will wage one helluva class action lawsuit against the NY Times and rightfully so.

...to be made pariahs and held up before the nation and exposed for all to see as the traitors they are. And Americans should never be allowed to forget this.

From this minute until the November elections, the Republicans should spend every waking moment wrapping the New York Times around the neck of every Democrat in this country.

Then, two weeks before the election, announce the indictment of the Clinton-appointed, career Democrat holdover in the State Department or the CIA who leaked to the Times this information and probably every other secret that has been published.

Use all that, in conjunction with Jack Murtha's months-long America-hating, treasonous party train, and we'll own everything: House, Senate, Supreme Court, lock, stock, and barrel.

This is one of those God-given opportunities that, in recent history, the Republicans have been too stupid to see for what it is. Maybe we ought to start a bombardment, ala the Immigration Bill of Rights fiasco, on Washington to force them to, for once, use the socialists' destructive behavior to destroy them.

Great column - but I don't know why everyone is assuming that al-Murtha actually discouraged them from publishing the story - just because he may have been asked to talk with them doesn't mean he didn't just let them know, either explicitly or with a wink and a nudge, that he would love to see them publish it and that the loony Demagogues would rush to the battle stations to defend them. I would assume that the original leak(s) came from 'Rat Congresscritters in the al-Murtha camp, and I find it difficult to imagine someone like al-Murtha truly imploring them not to publish this kind of story.

Other than that quibble, I applaud Michael Reagan's column 110%!!
