I don't think the state will have any difficulty getting a conviction,but it irks me when LE pulls bonehead stunts like this.Cooey's room mates were very likely accesories to the crime,and they simply walked,no charges,nothing.

My memory isn't clear on this but I thought they were his kin (sister or something) and it appears they knew what he did and helped him get out of town. If he hadn't been such a complete moron he might have stayed on the run for some time.

See above. The police had evidence of them being at least witnesses and at worst accessories to the crime. The prosecutor refused to bring charges. We can blame the police for the first confession mess but the decision not to prosecute his roomate wasn't theirs.
