Barring a miracle, there will be no Pride Week Festival in Ottawa this year, festival organizers say, after city council rejected pleas for emergency funding yesterday.
More like "barring widespread delusion or judicial activism"...
I think I have found the breakdown of the vote.
http://ottawa.ca/city_hall/mayor_council/councillors/index_en.html for the list of all councillors
I know the three who voted FOR were Diane Holmes, Georges Bedard and Clive Doucet (all of whom represent downtown wards).
Since this article - http://www.xtra.ca/public/viewstory.aspx?AFF_TYPE=2&STORY_ID=1841&PUB_TEMPLATE_ID=1 - says rural and suburban councillors were overwhelmingly opposed, I am guessing (based on the committee vote and their past history) the following voted AGAINST (I could be off by some):
*Bob Monnett
*Diane Deans
*Doug Thompson
*Eli El-Chantily
*Glenn Brooks
*Gord Hunter
*Jacques Legendre
*Jan Harder
*Janet Stavinga
*Maria McRae
*Michel Bellemare
*Peter Hume
*Ranier Bloess
*Rick Chiarelli
*Rob Jellett
I believe that Alex Cullen, Peggy Feltmare, Shawn Little and mayor Bob Chiarelli abstained as they all have a strong pro-gay record.
The vote by ward type:
Downtown wards (3) - 3 for, 0 against, 0 abstained
Urban wards (8) - 0 for, 6 against, 2 abstained
Suburban wards (5) - 0 far, 4 against, 1 abstained
Rural wards (5) - 0 for, 5 against, 0 abstained
