Ok here is Sunday's Top thread for July 2nd, 2006.

1st an Honorable Mentions for a significant post that got squeezed out by the fierce competition this week. Think Darth put his finger on the key reason why even the "Conservative" media is fading in the ratings wars.
Darth Republican #332Snip.... My own personal view is that the core audience for Fox News Channel are ardent listners of conservative talk radio. And, after hearing the essential topics during their favorite show (Bennett, Ingraham, Hewitt, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity, Bruce, Levin, Medved, Prager, or whomever (and I'm sorry if I left someone's favorite out)) they simply are tired and don't want to watch anymore, especially since the FNC format isn't as interesting or diverse as radio with it's callers.

10. Bahbah. #355 The fact that Keller and Baquet are still trying to cover their asses ovr a week later should tell us they know they really stepped in it.... The old Grey Lady and her left coast counterpart really doth protest too much. Telling. They are trying to set up a situation in which the public will be "on their side" if the government goes after them to get their sources. I don't think they are going to succeed. They tried to outnumber and out talk Bill Bennett and Fred Thompson today, but they did not succeed. Believe me, DBM, we actually are not that stupid.

9. Mo1. #206. Congress could fix the mess the USSC made of this ruling. But only if the wording is just right and not some BS legislation they think will make people happy Congress needs to get smart when preparing bills

8. Maica. #212 Chris mentioned Bill Clinton's 61 approval ratings from Gallup... %%%%% According to maica's Law of What is Not Reported -- Hillary must have terrible approval ratings, along with the majority of Senators.

7. Arrowhead1952. #454. Well, you could become famous and get a Pulitzer if you breached security and got more information than you NEED to know to conduct an operation.... Well, you could be come famous and get a Pulitzer FIRED if you breached security and got more information than you NEED to know to conduct an operation. It's sad to see the major dead tree and online news organizations get away with this behavior. In my daily operations, I see more and more crackdowns on malicious behavior when dealing with confidential material. I personally know of two Majors and one Lieutenant Colonel who were discharged for letting "Top Secret" memos laying on their desk in full view of the office staff and/or visitors

6. Rodguy911. #8 Morning AB all. Thanks for all you do and congrats for a great showing on last weeks top ten, much deserved.Today will be Bill Bennett's day and deservedly so. He is on c-Span right now defending our values and few do it better. One topic that came up, and again rightly so, was the leaking of state secrets by the press namely the NYT this time.As a long time journalist we are taught to revere freedom of the pres which I do. This administration's dedication to that concept can hardly be challenged bearing in mind all the embedded journalists that have been allowed and other acknowledgments of the value of a free press. However, freedom of the press during a time of war needs to be a different concept. A President, sec, of defense, Gen. or other leaders in time of war time judgments needs to be reepsected unequivocably. When these leaders ask member of the press not to run stories, instead of demand that they stop these requests need to be obeyed without hesitation. During a time of war there can only be a few leaders at the top, and last time I looked we do not want the NYT running the war. They need to obey like eveyone else. Members of the press that do not comply with these requests need to be shut down as they were in WW II. There can be no compromise between a vague interpretation of what a free press is and the lives of our soldier fighting a viscous war. This cannot be negotiated. The bottom line is the welfare of the troops comes before the rights of the left wing press to continue their politicization of a war they don't like. We should not negotiate with the lives of our troops with a press hell bent on aiding and abetting the enemy.

5. Morgan In Denver. #343. It's hard to argue a gut reaction to logic. Even though you could very well be right, my gut tells me it's more than that. FNC has included so many liberals into their lineup that people are not only looking for other shows but changing their viewing habits. Bill O'Reilly started it, if I remember right, as he became more of a populist, vocally against the death penalty and trashing the Swiftboat Veterans and the book Unfit for Command. Add in Greta and Geraldo and many people went to see other things and have not returned. There are some people who may not be watching CNN on a regular basis yet but many conservatives I know are going back to see if they have changed, and if so how much. As for talk radio, I know a lot of conservatives who turn the dial when a host stays on an issue too long or gets too radical. My guess is talk radio is down in numbers too but will crank back up as the election nears or if some major story pitting left versus right comes up.
