Whenever July 4th or November 5th approach, I like to muse on the fact that English speaking people everywhere set off fireworks to commemorate acts of treason against the British Crown. Those of us not subject to the Crown commemorate an eminently successful one, those still subject to the Crown commemorate an unsuccessful one.

Actually the English have gotten over it. They view the United States for the most part as their greatest friend and ally.
Just right after 9-11, the Queen ordered the guards at Buckingham Palace to play 'The Star Spangled Banner' in place of 'God Save The Queen' when they did the Changing of the guard ceremony, daily. I am not sure for how long they did this, but it was the first and only time that any other song had been played in place of 'God Save The Queen.'
I am appreciative and admire the British for this.
