I think a lot of cities hold festivities in conjunction with national holidays and give them their own name.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see a smoking gun in this. I hate L.A. but not for this...

Maybe you are right pgyanke, but it just hit me the wrong way to have the title "Salute to Los Angeles Day" declared by our city council. Guess I am just too suspicious now.
