Murdered mother buried with her three children (2006 US death total, so far, 8649)

A young mother who was murdered, along with her three children, in Columbus last week, were loved by many in her old hometown of Warren, and they showed that love today.

The funeral for Jameila West, daughter Jameire, and sons Trevion and Jakia, was held today at the family's church in Warren. Beyond the uplifted hands and voices at the Greater Apostolic Church in Warren, is the devastating loss of four loved ones, but only two caskets. 27 year old Jameila West and her 3 year old son Jakia lie in one, 10 year old Jameire and 5 year old Trevion in the other.

Hundreds of friends and family members attended the funeral in Warren, to show their support for the Wests and their extended family. Jameila lived here most of her life, but recently moved her children to Columbus to start over. Before their lives were so brutally cut short, she had found a new church and pastor. He spoke at her funeral, telling the mourners to look for God in each other, not in what happened.

With the good-byes said and done, the family will now focus on justice for the person who took four lives.

West's estranged boyfriend and father of her youngest child is currently in jail in Trumbull County for three shootings here, one of them fatal. Columbus police are questioning Jason Howard about the murders of Jameila and her children. But he has not been charged in that case.

Suspect admits to killing
By CHRISTOPHER BOBBY Tribune Chronicle

Special to the Tribune Chronicle Jameila West and Jason T. Howard sit at a picnic table during happier times in this undated photo supplied by her family. West and her children were found dead Wednesday in Columbus and police there call Howard their only suspect.

WARREN — With a defiant, pouting look on his face and his tattooed arms shackled at his waist, murder suspect Jason Howard threw the indictment sheets against him to the courtroom floor.

‘‘I’m guilty of all this!’’ Howard blurted out.

But the 24-year-old Warren man denied involvement with the quadruple killing in Columbus of his former girlfriend and her three children. Columbus police call him their only suspect.

‘‘My kids are dead! Find out who did that,’’ Howard told Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge John M. Stuard.

When Stuard advised Howard to not speak and to cooperate with his attorney, Anthony Consoldane, Howard shot back with ‘‘I don’t care!’’

The six-count indictment in three Warren shootings in the past week, one of them fatal, included charges of aggravated murder and attempted murder. County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker referred to it as a ‘‘three-day crime spree’’ after telling news reporters ‘‘I don’t really care what his (Howard’s) attitude is like.’’

Stuard officially considered Howard’s appearance to include an innocent plea and he set a pretrial hearing for late Thursday morning.

The judge set bond at $2 million, while surviving family members of Philip A. Dally’s cried inside the courtroom and in the hallway before quickly leaving the courthouse.

We have the unconstitutional VAWA, voted in by both Democrats and Republicans. Part of it involves imprisoning any man caught with a firearm after being no more than accused (no conviction necessary) of domestic violence by an ex-wife or ex-girlfriend (restraining order).

And that unconstitutional violation of 2nd Amendment rights did not solve the problem.

But maybe repealing feminazi, no-fault divorce/cohabitation laws will.
