Security Guard: 'Axl Rose Was Going To Kill Me'
The hotel security guard who was involved in a brawl with GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose the morning after the band's concert in Stockholm, Sweden has broken his silence on the incident.
Pascal Håkansson, 25, who was working his fourth day as a security guard at the Berns hotel when he was allegedly assaulted by Rose, spoke exclusively to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet about the Tuesday morning (June 27) altercation.
"Axl came alone to the hotel and went up to his room," Håkansson said. "He came back again in the company of some sort of coordinator an older woman, who was his 'mom.'"
According to Pascal, what was about to happen turned out to be the most bizarre thing he's experienced in his five years as a security guard.
"Axl was pissed off because people had left him alone at some party," Pascal said. "He was loaded, in a bad mood and started cursing at the woman. When he started banging on the walls, I approached him and asked him to lower his voice."
When Axl ignored him, the security guard approached the assistant instead.
"Then Axl turned around and pushed me in my chest and neck," Håkansson said.
How hard?
"I totally lost balance. I wasn't prepared and I had to kneel for a moment in order to be able to remain standing. Then he jumped me and started fighting. I had to fend off a few punches, on my arms, for instance. Then I got hold of his neck and got him down on the ground. We wrestled for about a minute; he was strong."
And that's when he bit you?
"Yeah, but it wasn't until afterwards that I felt it. When you get such a rush of adrenaline, you don't feel anything. He could have had Hepatitis B or something. It was very uncomfortable. In general, it's disgusting to bite people."
When you were lying there on the ground, were you able to get both his arms in a lock?
"No, it wasn't possible. He was wild. He was totally wild. He was gonna kill me. 'I'm gonna f*** your life up,' he screamed."
At the same time as Axl Rose's bodyguard came down to the lobby, the reception called the police.
"Axl was stark-raving mad," Pascal continued. "The bodyguard tried to calm him down, but Axl threatened to fire him if he intervened. That's when he threw a vase into an antique mirror."
How did Axl look?
"He had a crazy, disturbing look."
Was he intoxicated?
"Yes, he was intoxicated, by alcohol or something."
At 7:45 a.m., four policemen with their batons drawn entered Berns hotel.
"He was still bouncing up and down screaming that he was gonna make my life a living hell," Pascal said.
What happened to you when the police detained Axl and drove away to the police station?
"I was upset. I sat down and talked to the staff at the reception. One of the girls was sad after what had happened. I wrote a report. Then the police called and wanted me to go to the hospital."
What did they check you out for at the hospital?
"If my skin had broken, but it hadn't. It was mostly a superficial wound."
Did you have time to be afraid? According to you, he seemed to be totally out of control.
"I have worked a lot as a bouncer at nightclubs and have become somewhat desensitized. I didn't have time to be afraid. But afterwards, it hit me. He was totally crazy. Anything could have happened."
Why have you been laying low until now?
"You have to reflect a bit before going public."
Axl Rose has admitted the crimes and will pay you 10,000 SEK (approximately $1,400) in damages. Have you heard anything from him since this incident?
"No one has called me. Not the police, not the District Attorney, not Axl's crew. It wold be nice to get an apology."
Will you proceed with this matter?
"I'm going to contact a lawyer to see what options are available. If this would have happened in the U.S., I probably would have been a millionaire," Pascal said with a smile.
Håkansson is now off work for a week before returning to his position as the security guard at the lobby of the Berns hotel.
"This was my fourth day at Berns and people told me that nothing ever happened there," Pascal said. "And then this is how it turns out. It's just totally crazy."
Aftonbladet has tried to reach Axl Rose through the concert booking agency Ema Telstar for a comment, but with no luck.
"I hold no grudge against him," Håkansson insisted. "I just did my job and did it well. It was nothing personal against me it could have happened to anyone. It's just by pure luck that it wasn't one of the girls working in the reception that was harmed."
Truer words...
pingie dingie
You would think Rose would grow up like the rest of the aging rock stars. In 40 years we're going to hear about him falling out of a palm tree somewhere.
I would have paid to see them beat him.
"No, it wasn't possible. He was wild. He was totally wild. He was gonna kill me."
Axl? Axl?!!?? If he couldn't take Axl in a fight it is time for him to GET OUT of the security business. Who would ever admit this?
Put me down for a twenny...
Welcome to the jungle baby!
I would have paid them to watch me beat him.
LOL!!! I agree, Glen Danzig - maybe...but Axel? He needs to find a different vocation.
You and me both...but he'll pay in the end. Axl Rose used to mean something, now he is just a washed-up druggie has-been, looking for his next hit! Shame.
Yep, rockers like Bon Jovi and his band have settled down and raised strong families. The band have never had the problems or break-ups associated with other bands. Although their music to me is mediocre and borders on pop, I admire the group in general.
Axl would be the expert on that.
Then Axl turned around and pushed me in my chest and neck," Håkansson said.
How hard?
"I totally lost balance"
You have got to be kidding me.
Onviously you don't understand the job of 'security'.
People on drugs are very hard to take down. If this guy was on something his size wouldn't matter. They will break bones before submitting.
I think the only thing Axl Rose could kill at this point, is time.
"Onviously you don't understand the job of 'security'."
Right...security is all about losing control of a situation and then calling a lawyer afterwards.
I don't know. That's why I said if and was talking about people in general.
"People on drugs are very hard to take down. If this guy was on something his size wouldn't matter. They will break bones before submitting."
You ever think that just about every fight a brawler has, is against someone drunk, on drugs, or both, it's kind of the nature of the game.
Only a minority of fights involve neither one of the parties being stoned.
Tiiime is on my side, yes it is... Tiiiime is on myside, yesit is.
Exerpted from another menace to society..Mick Jagger.
In forty years we'll be observing the thirty-fifth anniversary of his death.
Lokks like Axl's still dancing with Mr. Brownstone.
"Yep, rockers like Bon Jovi and his band have settled down and raised strong families. The band have never had the problems or break-ups associated with other bands. Although their music to me is mediocre and borders on pop, I admire the group in general."
That's not entirely true, the split with their bassist was not pleasant, and they've caused problems with other bands, you just don't hear about it, as BJ is the fair haired boy of the rock media.
Granted, they don't indulge in one 1000th of the drama Axl does, but BJ are not as pristine as you might think.
Yep..Ya got a problem with that?
Great song. And not unlikely. "He won't leave me alone..."
Although their music to me is mediocre and borders on pop, I admire the group in general. How do you feel about...wait for it...
Extreme?
haha.
Believe it or not, but Axl is drug free, and has been since before the Use Your Illusions tours. He does drink tho. I have close connections to the band, I trust those who have told me that. If he is using, it's a new thing.
See, the problem is, he's a diagnosed bi-polar who refuses to take his meds, and drinks. If he takes his meds, he's fine. Problem is, he has'nt taken it in years.
Thus, he bites security guards in the leg.
I have stories, but nothing I'd repeat in public, that camp likes to sue people.
That's good to hear, actually. Heroin's taken down a whole lot of musicians. Alcohol, probably more but you don't hear about it as much.
I've known people like that. Also, I heard Axl was trying to use homeopathic stuff, and natural remedies instead of pharmacuetical drugs. I guess that's not working too well now.
Yeah, but the idea of Axl losing control and getting into fights actually enhances the man's reputation. If I were his P.R. agent, I would tell him, "Axl, you haven't trashed a hotel room or gotten into a fight in two months, and this is getting to be a problem."
At least he didn't sing then you would have killed yourself
It's not Axl you gotta worry about, it's his bodyguards.
That's the bit about the story that's really interesting, is why his bodyguard did'nt intervene.
Big Earl must not be around anymore, he would have never let it get that far. (He would have seperated the two. Earl's a monster, I've seen him from a short distance, but he's VERY smooth, and very good at what he does.)

Um...let me put this very carefully...how do you know that has'nt already happened? :)
Let's just say, he works with people who are very saavy with the media. I'm not saying he pulled this one on purpose, but in the past...
'nuff said. :)
Rock and roll is 99% fantasy and 1% reality. That's what makes it so much fun!
Well that's good that he is clean. IF he bit the guard, he really shouldn't be biting people though:")
Rose probably smoked some of them marijuana joints. They say marijuana is even more potent today than in the 60's.
That's the funny thing here though, he isn't...this is just grade-A, au naturale boorishness on rose's part.
Right...
Please refer to post #15 again.
the boy had a hard ENOUGH time with tommy hillfiger...
This is not a guard. This is a freaking uniformed metrosexual weakling. If Axel Rose can kick your butt, you don't need to be a guard.
The point a lot of people missed:
If it's Joe "Bubba" Axel, then the ribbing this security guard got would have been justified.
Unfortunately for him, this was Axl Rose. If Henry Winkler suddenly came up to you and began walloping you, you'd be flat on your feet/back too for a moment or two as your mind is still stunned by the fact that a celebrity just attacked you. Regardless of whether its Stallone or Britney Spears, you may lose focus and, yes, even your footing.
Once you have regain composure and the element of surprise is gone from the adversary, you have to make a concious decision: fight or flight.
Most of us will probably opt for fight but it is not unreasonable to choose flight. And here is why:
The celeb's body guard would join in the fray.
There are career consequences. Your company, especially if it deals with security, protection, or showbiz would not be too happy about you attacking a star regardless of self-defense protestations.
In court, it is the word of you, lowly, insignificant person against Mr/Ms Superstar. Even if the court agrees that you have more credibility, for PR purposes they might be more than willing to sacrifice you for the star.
And of course, the undying enmity of fans and fanatics.
This man is put in a truly bad situation; the classical d@mned if you do and d@mned if you don't. If he fights back, he would likely get pummeled by bodyguards, get fired (security guards aren't suppose to pummel the people they were meant to protect, esp celebrities), courts may rule against him, and total strangers will harass him everywhere he goes.
No wonder he opted for the alternative. But now he's being mocked as a wuss and may still not get justice if the court decided it's not worth troubling Axl over.
I hope they both get their just rewards. Enough of this rules for the elite and rules for the peon BS. It's time us peons get our due.
Axl is much misunderstood.
What rubbish, i was miles away at the time !!!
