N. Korea May Have Fired Up To 12 Missiles

Six launches including Taepodong-2 were confirmed...the additional launches were being investigated

It is possible that N. Korea launched six additional launches of short-range and shore-to-ship missiles, in addition to six launches of Taepodong-2, Nodong, and Scud surface-to-surface missiles, during dawn and morning hours of July 5th.

Senior government sources said, "The confirmed launches so far by N. Koreans are one Taepodong launch and five launches of Nodong and Scud missiles, totaling six. However, we have indications that, between 7am and 8:13am, six additional missiles are launched, which we are trying to confirm." These additional missiles are likely to be 'Seersucker' shore-to-ship missiles (range: 100~120km) and Scuds(range: 300~500km.)

The (S. Korean) government officially announced (this morning) that, on July 5th, at 5am, N. Korea launched Taepodong-2 missile at Taepodong, Hwa-dae County, N. Hamkyong Province, and, starting at 3:32am, several Scud and Nodong missiles at Kitaeryong, Anbyun County, Kangwon Province.

Intelligence agencies determined that Taepodong-2 blew up mid-air over East Sea, 40 seconds after its launch, turning the test into a failure.

But wait, CNN International just put up an interview with a "US legislator", ie a liberal, to say that the US is powerless against NK, we are bogged down in Iraq, we can do nothing, bla bla bla.....

Yeah, that's been the left winged talking point all day today.

Show of force? Prevent possible interception by MD systems? Or both?

Sales demo?

I saw that, it was shocking in its brazenness, you see they KNOW that not one of the so-called journalists or so-called experts on that panel, would call them on it, or they would not have rewritten history on national TV.

And the NK "experts" were even worse, praising NK for their defiance, cunning, blackmail abilities and timing.

Sickening, especially when they speak of our President as if he is dangerous, sinister, corrupt and not even human.

Not to mention the Delta rockets that were 'farmed' out as well.

oops I read here on FreeRepublic earlier that they were docked. Go here and find out when you can see it from your place. http://www.heavens-above.com/. If tht was just the ISS it was still more impressive than a no dong :-)

I would have thought we had sufficient resources to figure that out.

Of course "we" do. "We" have had it pegged all along.

Don't mistake our government's "resources" for the press's "resources."

It's the press that can't figure out whether it's 6 or 10, and I'm quite in favor of that. Until some big changes are made, I wouldn't trust them with ANY sensitive information. Any. At all.

As long as the majority of the media is still this corrupt, biased and hateful, I fear for The Republic.

Something's up with this story. We don't know how many missles were launched, but we somehow know that the missle that exploded just happened to be the long-range one. How did we know it was the long-range missle before it even traveled for 50 seconds, but don't know for sure yet how many other missles were launched? This story is way too fishy. I have to believe right now that they knew a whole lot more about these missles than they are letting on, and that the "exploding" missle was shot down. Good work, America.

About a week ago I heard Bill Gertz say that the Taepodong-2 sitting on NK's launch pad could very well have technology in it that the Commander In Briefs gave the Chicoms.

Regular shoddy work plus showboating. Prevent interception - of what? Of taepodong-2? There were indications that other stuff was launched from other locations, thus there would be no confusion in tracking the big phallic symbol which was tracked from T-3 weeks.

It was probably the ISS. You can see the ISS with the naked eye. Thanks for that link, but I've got a piece of software that not only tracks orbiting objects, but also will give exact times of overhead passes for my exact location. It may be a DOS program, but it works great and was created by a retired NASA employee.

"Did it have help "blowing up"? "
Er.... let us say it had an accident. And now there will be some serious accidents of cannibalism in NK heavy rocketry program plus in security agencies. All the better.

The doctrine and standing orders for the missle defense commands are clear - if it looks like it's heading for the US, kill it.

And the TD2 was on a path that could have taken it to the US. In the case of nuclear weapons, shoot first, ask stupid questions later.

lol Well, Ahmadingyjob may not have been impressed that's for sure. But where else will he go to buy Chicom hardware. He doesn't have the status to buy wholesale from the factory does he?

The size of the missile can be determined by the size of the flare on launch and the size of the exhaust plume. Both are easily done; both by satellite and trained observers with binoculars.

The TD2 is significantly larger than a Scud-class missile and generates a fairly impressive exhaust plume, roughly equivalent to one of our old Atlas rockets (or the Mercury space missions, for that matter).
