2 Somalis killed for watching World Cup (nightmare of Taliban regime revives in Somalia)

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Radical Islamic militia fighters in Somalia shot and killed two people who were watching a banned World Cup soccer broadcast, a radio station reported Wednesday.

The hard-line Muslim fighters, who have banned watching television, opened fire after a crowd of teenagers defied their orders to leave a hall where a businessman was showing Tuesday's Germany-Italy match on satellite television, according to Shabelle Radio, an independent local station. It said the businessman and a teenage girl were killed.

Hard-line Muslim fighters, who wrested control of the Somali capital from warlords in June, have forbidden people from watching television or movies in line with their strict interpretation of Islam.

The militants of the Supreme Islamic Courts Council, who have established control in much of the south, have recently moved into parts of central Somalia, including the Mudug region where Tuesday's shooting occurred.

The leader of their group, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, has spent the past weeks in central Somalia recruiting fighters in his clan's native region.

Washington has accused the Islamic group of harboring al-Qaida leaders responsible for deadly 1998 bombings at the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Somalia has been without an effective government since largely clan-based warlords overthrew longtime dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991 and then turned on each other, dividing the nation into a patchwork of rival fiefdoms.

A U.N.-backed transitional government is established only in the southern town of Baidoa, where leaders on Wednesday met officials from a regional East African group, the African Union, European Union and the Arab League to discuss plans for deploying peacekeepers.

The 24-member delegation held talks with President Abdullahi Yusuf, Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi and parliamentary Speaker Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden.

The team is expected to visit Mogadishu Thursday for talks with the Islamic group that controls the city and opposes the deployment of peacekeepers.

But this couldn't be a human rights violation. Because those are only done by Israel.

The difference between militant Muslims and moderate Muslims is that the militants shoot kids and the moderates pretend like nothing happened and get offended if anyone speaks out against Islam.

LOL.

But seriously, a few weeks ago I was at a place where they were broadcasting the Portugal-Netherlands game.

They were a lot of soccer fans in attendance. They were cheering and yelling almost as much as we do when a football game is on.

I agree...but taking that stance, will be interpreted that we are racist...since we're speaking about African blacks.

Religion of Peace my foot.

These guys are their own worst enemies. Here comes the TV and movie ban, strictures on clothes, beards and hair. No music. It is the will of Allah that we shoot violators of his law.

Wherever these guys come into power, they savage the population until they turn against them. It is only a matter of time.

This form Somalia for Jesus Blog http://falsan.blogspot.com/2006/04/initial-tribute-martyrdom-of-pastor.html Pastor Hussein was regularly tortured in the three years he spent in prison. His worst nightmare came true in 1989 when his Muslim torturers repeatedly hit him on the head with iron rods and wooden clubs until he fainted. He was previously hit on the feet, ankles, and hands. Pastor Hussein’s torturers resorted to the most hated torturing (hitting prisoners on the head) because the pastor refused to reveal the names of his underground house church members. Pastor Hussein became epileptic, his sight became blurred, his voice box was broken, and his right hand and left leg developed nerve problems. Pastor Hussein visited a local doctor after his release and he was told that part of his brain was damaged because of the head injuries he received in prison. The cause of pastor Hussein’s death is listed as “severe head trauma received in 1989.” Pray for the pastor’s wife and the seven children he left behind.

Personally, if I were Bush, I would appoint Clinton and Carter to represent the US at this conference, and tell them to take their televisions with them.

Oh that's easy. The live person falls asleep and starts snoring.

________

Guess you've never watched a baseball game, eh? 3 and a half hours with a total of 7 minutes of actual action. Never been a big soccer fan, but it's hard not to be impressed with their physical conditioning. OK, the pretending that they're hurt every time they fall down gets a bit old ...

Okay, lets drop some rappers in there to sort it all out. I'm told they have all the answers.

Something along those lines: Defiant of President Bush's policies, militants execute a local businessman in Somalia.

No reason to be concerned. Just cultural diversity. Afterall, they're just trying to enforce the religion of peace.

I would love to see something done militarily in this country. I know it is not feasible with our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but, the message it would send to the world if we could go in and rid this country of these Islamic thugs would be tremendous. If I'm not mistaken, isn't this the country that Bin-Laden started his war against America in? Black Hawk Down.

Hi All-

The general population has to eventually turn against this form of government and overthrow it. Heck, the most devout Muslim in the world might simply be walking past an open doorway where they're watching a soccer game and he is liable to catch a 7.62 bullet in the brain for his trouble? People will only endure that for so long before they're marching with pitchforks and torches.

Then again, these are Muslims we're talking about here...and they're not too clever.
