"thought he'd win a Pulitzer."

A Pulitzer is chump change to these self-indulgent Ex-hippies. They're all in competition to see who is going to be the next Woodward and or Bernstein. Just think of it. Multimillion dollar book deals, absorbent-speaking fees, guest appearances on all the talk shows as the expert on “Presidential corruption” and all until you assume room temperature. No more hustling for a pitiful Pulitzer Prize, You and you alone are an icon.

It is not just the liberals. Conservatives like Buckley and Wills are so discouraged by the drawnout struggle in Iraq and Afghanistan that they have pronounced it a failure. I subscribe this --perhaps unfairly--to their desire to have the good opinion of their liberal friends and associates. But Bush shares part of the blame. Last year he abandoned hisfocus on the war for more than six months while he peddled his half-baked plan on social security reform.
Meanwhile matters drifted in Iran without a constitution and a real Iraqi government in place. Only our soldiers in Southwest Asia and their families are fully aware that a war is going on. The best testament to that effort is that they have not lost faith in it.
