"Look, if a person can't go one day out of seven without buying alcohol, they surely have problems.
"

Oh, that's just silly. I drink wine with meals. It's good for my digestion, and it's what Paul advised one person to do, to help with digestion. My doctor agrees with this, and says that it also helps with some other things.

I have no problems with alcohol. I happen to live in a state where alcohol off-sales are prohibited on Sunday. It's hardly a problem, of course, since I can simply buy it on the other six days.

However, to make it illegal to sell bottles of wine on Sundays, while allowing its sale in restaurants and bars, just seems silly to me. Doesn't it seem silly to you?

I agree, but then I don't think it should be sold in restaurants or bars on Sunday either.

It does seem silly. Sundays are a good time to invite folks to your home for dinner, and any good guest knows that a bottle of table wine is a welcome host/ess gift.

Of course, if you are careful not to offend, or you are dining with Baptists, you may opt for flowers or loaves of French bread. ;o)

Silly Law Alert!

I think that the state shouldn't make these kinds of choices for us.

I've been doing a lot of landscaping in my back yard lately. When I get going, the last thing I want to do is stop and go back out to the store. So I stopped by the store to buy a six pack - for later in the day, after I've worked up a good sweat - and was told I can't purchase beer before noon.

Stupid law! So I'm penalized for waking up at five am and getting all my shopping done at the local garden stores around 7am so I can be starting my work by 7:30? Sheesh, this must be what they mean by Nanny State!!!!

There's a difference between drinking wine every day and buying wine every day.

You can't buy enough wine six days before Sunday to get through Sunday?

Blue laws are not about drinking, they're about rhythm. Six days labor, one day rest. Economically, they were intended to put a pause in a break-neck mercantilism. I'm surprised they've lasted this long in the immediate-gratification culture of ours.

I wonder if Planned Parenthood performs abortions on Sunday.
