A Painful Sentence: The Problem With Pain Medications
CBS 4 ^ | July 6, 2006 | Jennifer Santiago

Posted on 07/08/2006 11:27:44 AM PDT by JTN

Video news story about a young woman who faces a 25 year mandatory minimum sentence for drug trafficking. The drugs were prescription drugs (the prescription was for her mother, who had recently passed away) and none were sold.

Note: I couldn't get the video to play in a Firefox tab, but it played fine using the IE Tab extension.

I've got a feeling that the arresting law enforcement officers and the court knows more about this case than we do just from reading a few lines on a website thread.

I'm through discussing this. But, it's nice to know that my original comment was proven to have hit a nerve by the ungodly, hate spewing, vitriolic, comments I received.

MADE MY DAY!!!

Why is it that whenever somebody disagrees with certain people at FR, they're UNGODLY. That's so assinine. Yea, Go would want someone with unbearable back pain to go to jail for 25 years. Yea...that's it.

Dear God; what's wrong with you people? Can't you read? I never suggested making pain pills illegal. Nor does alcohol have to be made "illegal"; it just has to be used legally and morally; same goes for barbituates.

From a personal standpoint, it wouldn't bother me if alcohol was made illegal. I don't drink alcohol so I don't give a rat's butt.

Man, you people need to read a person's post before you get all wild-eyed and crazy.

Did you read what ARealMothersSonForever said to me? You don't think that was ungodly?

You people have a real problem.

Unless I missed something..you stated a statistic and she asked for proof. What's unGodly about that? BTW, if you talk about another Freeper, it's the rule to ping them.

No, I don't need to "chill out"..the last refuge of a scoundrel. You need to lighten up and look at real life.

I used to get migraines quite frequently (can't take imitrex because of heart condition) and maybe a couple times a year I would ask my doctor for some vicodin. One time I went in after having a severe migraine for 7 days. I asked him for 5 vicodins. He said no and gave me 5 darvocet.

I could see if I was calling him every week or heck even every month, but I'm talking a couple times a year. It is completely ridiculous that people have to suffer in pain. My heart goes out to those in chronic pain.

Do you have an opinion on this mandatory minimum drug sentencing?

You have never answered my questions what it says about women not being teachers in the Bible and to learn in silence and submission. Do you or do you not agree with those passages?

What about from a principle?

There is a real epidemic in this country right now that many people are unaware of; it's addiction to pain pills (like Oxycontin) and muscle relaxers (like Somas).

Actually, no there isn't. The myth about an epidemic of Oxycontin abuse was started by a series in the Orlando Sentinel that turned out to be bogus. The paper fired the reporter, retracted the series and apologized. The reality is that accidental addiction to Oxycontin is very rare.

Why do you think this account is flawed? Do you believe it didn't happen as stated?

Thanks. no dems and I had a brief offline discussion. Suffice that neither of us has modified our position. It was inappropriate of me to suggest that another person and their loved ones suffer pain with no relief in sight. Perhaps it could even be construed as "ungodly". I am compelled to publicly apologize for my statement. This does not mean that I agree with the laws and policies that are in place. Few people have heard a loved one beg for relief from pain, and even beg for death in order to be relieved. I posit the question: is it more ethical, moral (or legal) to impose pain and suffering; or administer euthanasia? I know the correct answer. Perhaps others may exhibit the intellectual honesty to defend their position in a public forum. Alas, the discussion will degenerate to recommended professional dosage.

I'm confused now, I admit...what are you saying? You don't believe people are so in pain they want to die?

I have been in the presence of friends and family members that have begged for relief, even death. And I have witnessed death, even when they were denied pain relief. The statement is for the benefit of no dems.

Good. That's what I wanted to hear. That's how I feel. And what I've been through. God Bless.
