The Japanese already have the most advanced military outside of the US in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese military is large, but outdated. And how will the Chinese squeeze the Japanese without a navy?

They'll squeeze them and the others in the area via proxy, like they are now, until they get strong enough.
Japan's military is about to get stronger, fortunately. :)

The Chinese embarked, several yers ago, on one of the most ambitious naval modernization and build-up programs since World War II. They are not up to JMSDF standards yet...but they are growing rapidly and already represent a major shift in naval power in the region.

They have one, a pretty modern coastal type, but becoming more and more blue-water all the time!
